I need help please (ge washer)

hello new here, and have tons of questions and this would be the only place i know i would get them answered . I think this website is really cool and constructive im amazed.
ok I have a problem well more me and my parents do, our washer a general electric topload purchased in 2002 just recently has the two following problems:
makes a bizarre loud noise during the spin and if a load is left soaking for more than maybe 45 minutes it will leak half of the water out. Someone please respond tell us what the problem is, and if we get it fixed , will it this agian? or are we eventually looking at its death? lol ohh hope not i have no idea what the model number is it doesnt say ( i know it sucks) please someone help lol i would really apreciate it thanks.

Could be the tub seal is leaking and causing a bearing type noise??? Does it sound like a freight train in spin? If so, the bearings have gotten wet. The tub seal is replacable but the bearing noise may involve changing the transmission. I'd buy another washer, in that case. Hope this helps!!!

Re: If Replacing your GE Washer:

I would suggest looking into a "MOL" Middle-of-Line Whirlpool Top-Load Washer, depending on features, or else I would alternately suggest a Front-Load Fridgemore, but look into either the newer Frigidaire or Kenmore Models, not the GE Models, actually for either replacement.

Sorry to hear about this happening to such a rather newer Washer. Unfortunately, GE especially doesn't make them any where near like they used to.

Let us know what you end up having to do and if you do have to replace the GE Washer.

yes it sounds more like a squiling pig in a frieght train during the spin lol. does it also have to do with the types of things we wash or is it just a bad washer that lead to this? im am going to tell my parents they will not be happy but this proves that everytime i tell them dont buy this get that instead im right. they have done this with a car they purchased, a fridge, and now the doomed washer! grrrrrrrrrrrrr i told them to get the "whirlpool gold" one that we saw it was the same price! anyways i really appreciate the responses god bless!

GE = Junk

My experience with the newer GE washers (GE washers made within the last 10 years) is that they are junk. They seem to be designed to fail, and they do a lousy job of cleaning. For a replacement, I think the best top loader out there is a Maytag Dependable Care if you can find or order one. The best commonly available top loader out there that is easy to get is a Whirlpool/Kenmore Direct Drive machine. The Maytag is better, but the WP?KM is far better than anything else you may find. Avoid GE top loaders and front loaders at all costs.

im telling you we just realized that.i did some research on our model i just found out which it is, the website doesnt have one of the parts we needed and they suggested we replace the motor! assh*les! damn ge! now my moms furious because its also a model thats been discountinued. i find out its costs more to repair it. so far the to parts just came out to $411.35 excluding shipping and instalation! for the same price or $100.00 dollars more my parents are now opting to get another washer instead. you are right thanks everyone for your advice we are definetly taking it.

The water might be siphoning out of the drain hose,is it at least as high as the console of the washer?

However,if it's squealing in spin,it might be time to replace it.Does GE have some sort of longer warranty on the transmission? Kinda unusual,but not unheard of for a 4 YO GE washer.
