I'm Baffled

Not even a year in, my Electrolux 600 baffle is broken.
I had a tech look at it this afternoon, and he said this was his first time seeing this type of inner basket damage. If I wanted the plastic baffle replaced, the whole machine would need to be taken apart. I told him it would be a four-hour job if he did it.

I know this does not require total disassembly, and a video from the repair clinic shows how to replace the offending plastic.

I would like to know if this is the right procedure to fix?

That's about right, yes. As far as I know, all ELux baffles are just clipped in, both compact and standard size FLs.
I actually wasn't aware US ELux FLs had splittable tubs still. The EU ones don't and baffle replacement is still a standard service procedure.

Removing the baffle can be as destructive as it turns out - just try not to loose any larger pieces into the tub and try not to dent the drum.
The new one just clips in.

There is a service manual for that base machine design on manualslib.com, however, that doesn't mention baffle replacement unfortunately...

The tech will send me the new baffle in a few days, which will help me determine whether they are slide-in locking clips.

Was the tech trying to say that the washer tub was damaged and you’d have to replace the whole inner basket?

As far as I know, the Electrolux machines here in the states the outer tub can be separated, and you can replace the inner wash basket.

About a year ago, the distributor had about 20 new Electrolux machines where the front of the outer tub broke because it was supported by a big chunk of Styrofoam when it was shipped in in the winter when the machines were dropped pretty hard it would crash through the outer tub.

They parted out or threw the machines away. We grabbed three of them and put new front tub assemblies on them all are working fine today we sold all three of them in front of the outer tub cost about $100. It wasn’t too bad a job. It’s certainly not four hour job unless the machine is installed in some inaccessible space and had to be uninstalled and removed to gain access to work on it.

Well, there’s not a lot of difference in the mainstream brands. We do like the whirlpool Maytag front motor is better. They don’t seem to have as many trouble since the Electrolux machines.

Yesterday we had to unstack an Electrolux pair and replace the left rear shock absorber it broke off its mount and punched a hole through the drain hose. The resulting leak went all the way down two levels to the basement and did a lot of damage to the home because they didn’t discover it for a while until they figured out the leak was related to the use of the washing machine.

It was a pain in the neck, but we got it repaired. It took two of us. Many of these Electrolux machines are just too complicated. They have three water pumps in the fancier models and they have a very complex inlet valve for always replacing inlet valves on them seems to be the most common problem.
