Info on bearing replacement on 1999 Maytag Super Capacity Plus 18 cycle washer

I've searched some of the archives and haven't found the info
The machine has become extremely loud during any cycle.
No water leaking yet. so I hope the transmission is unaffected.
No grease in the tub.
I purchased this machine new and it's been reliable.

How large of a task is it as a diy

this guy does a great detailed video of replacing bearings and seals.....

not that far off of your design, the splash shield is probably the only difference, as your most likely pops off with a few side clips.....the rest should be the same.....in fact, yours should have the same tranny as this video, Orbital Drive....but either trans is installed the same way....

Had it done

I actually had this done at the Local Maytag Dealer. About 7 years ago it cost $250.00. I thought it was worth it to keep the machine because I do like the machine. I don't know if anyone does this kind of work anymore, because most people will just throw it out.

This is a speed queen variant. It's a pretty involved job, and I'm pretty sure it will require a special tool or 2.

Remove agitator, then inner tub, remove transmission nut. Remove entire tub unit, motor and all, flip upside down and tear down. Bearing is pressed in to that plastic tub.

Certainly easier said than done.

Figures I'd pick an odd ball . Taking it appart is not a problem. (we'll see) Putting it back together and working.
properly now that's to be seen.

I'm pretty sure the bearing kit comes with the tub seal too. If you decide to do it, and find yourself needing a special tool, I likely have it and would loan it to you.

We haven't taken it apart yet just the front panel to see what we are dealing with in that area..
When we get to disassembly ( because waithout instructions we have no idea what we will run into or need} I thank you for your offer of tool loan... We may need it.

I can't find any information just googling model SAV50701AWQ.

I did find a tid bit on the time period when the melding of
Speed Queen. Ammana .Maytag

Speed Queen and Amana were produced by the same manufacturer (Raytheon) for a period of time. No longer.

After the "no longer" time, Maytag bought Amana, and NAV & SAV Maytag models were of the Amana design.

Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006, and thus Amana washers shortly after were changed to Whirlpool mechanics.

Should I be looking for Ammana information to get pictoral breakdown.

Replacing The Top Bearing In a SQ Style Washer

Getting the machine apart is the hardest part, but the complete job is pretty hard to do. You will probably want a helper for at least parts of the job, and of course the main seal must be replaced a well. When you get in there you will see that water got into the bearing and caused the failure.

 

No special tools are required for this job.

 

I would probably not repair this washer unless you really like involved difficult projects. If anything is not reassembled properly or if you have other worn parts etc repairing this may not last long. If you really want this repair to run anywhere nearly as long as the washer lasted the first time around I would also replace the transmission.

 

If you  really like this washer I would buy a new Speed Queen, the new Alliance SQs have a much better seal design and the next year or so may be your last chance to get this style washer.

I see a vintage maytag in my future,,, Yeah.
If we repaired it it would be stored untill my portable died. So no big whoop.
We are capable of the repair but given that replacing the transmission should be included I'm sure
hubs will not see the cost justification. I am not that sentimental any more over such items.

The life story of this machine is.. 1 week after purchase the seal went out.. under warranty it was replaced with a new transmission ect. The service man said that it was a heaverier duty seal and transmission. ( true or not IDK)
Since then it has functioned without any problems.

So I suppose it will become a new KIa. For 2018.

This was the machine my mother in law used more than myself. we live in a duplex situation and she ran it 6 days aweek about 10 items a load for 7 years.

can't see how 2 people could ever manufacture that much laundry but she would not listen to reason.
So now she can buy a machine and ruin it unnecessarily, KARMA gotta love it..
