Thought I published this, but must not have hit post!

Anyways, my parents just purchased a new Ford Focus, and so they are giving me their Cadillac. I mentioned this car in passing before when we were talking about Cadillacs.

This is a 1969 Fleetwood Brougham. Features include the headlight Sentinel, air conditioning, power seats, power windows, one touch winshield wiper/washer, am-fm stereo (flip display), Wonderbar equivalent, climate control, automatic load leveling system, rear footrests and remote trunk. The only thing that does not work is the air conditioning.

I have to replace the brakes and give it a good tune. Aside from that, it's roadworthy. I will send pictures if interested. It is gold with a gold brocade interior.

Congratulations! I love the "boxy" look of the late-60's-early-70's 4-door sedans Cadillac had...and those monster V8's as well! Does yours have a 429 or 472 CID version?

Caddy to Focus

Wow, what a big stepdown! I would've thought they'd maybe go to a Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis.

1969-70 were great looking years for Caddy, IMHO

Kenmore, an interesting thing to say....

My dad has a 1985 Grand Marquis with 205,000 miles on it (selling that to who knows who!) and his normal driver is a 2000 Grand Marquis. I actually like Grand Marquis even though mostly older drivers drive them. To me, a big rear drive car with plenty of room reminds me of being a kid in a big car cruising the interstate. They didn't see it as too much of a step down getting into the Marquis, as they got full leather and loaded options on both, and didn't want to pay alot more for the Cads. Of course, dad still threatens to get a Town Car next.

They have been parking the 85 in front for years and want to get it off their driveway, but wanted a small car for around town hops. My mom is still not used to it, has not tried to drive it yet. Console automatic? Hand brake? Surely you jest!

Now they can park both their cars in the garage and have more dependable cars.

Westy, it is the 472 engine. The car is not fast off the line because of its weight, but on the freeway it could cruise at 100 all day with the air on and you would think it's going 60. I know this as a fact as when we would drive cross country, as soon as my mom was asleep, my dad would put the pedal down! I really loved that car, and still kind of taking it all in that it's coming to live here.

Who drives what

"I actually like Grand Marquis even though mostly older drivers drive them."

I guess I'm the odd man out, I've never considered whether or not I'd own a certain type of car based on the type of people who normally would purchase that type of car. A lot of people care that only "old" people drive big rear dirve cars, but I don't care, I LIKE those type of cars. I like room, power, and smoothness over "image".

Not to imply that you're overly concerned with "image"

We had a few '69's at the funeral home. That was the first year they (Cadillac) styled the full size Cadillacs to look like the Eldorados of the day. We had a Fleetwood Sixty-Special Brougham, and a Hess & Eisenhardt Victoria coach (built on the Fleetwood "75" chassis) in our signature colors Dark Olive Green, Black vinyl top, black leather interior, coach had camel colored draperies and trim. They were beautiful.Rode so smoothly and quietly----you could glide right over a railroad crossing with hardly a jiggle! I really enjoyed driving that Brougham and you are so right-------those things could easily cruise 100 mph all day------although limited by the size of the gas tank and the MPG! Back in those days I think you were lucky if those things got 6 or 7 MPG and on PREMIUM fuel at that! We ALWAYS ran Amoco 93 octane Premium in our cars. (Must have been about .40 cents a gallon then!) Those were the days!I hope your parents car will go to someone who will care for it. I don't see too many of those around anymore.

I appreciate that, and re-reading my writings I do come across that way. Fortunately, I could not be more opposite!

As an example, my son and I have collected a few vintage Schwinn bikes, and I am sure many people think that a 6'2, 200 lb guy like myself gleefully riding a 20" Stingray Fastback down the street is the epitome of a fool, but I don't care, I have tons of fun. I love R/C flying, rocketry, collecting Fiesta Ware, decorating, and BIG cars! So much for the image. I am sure people look at me and think I am the guy watching "the game" over the weekend, and to be honest, I never know what "game" anyone is talking about at a given time. The nice thing about getting into your 40s is you start caring less what your image is and more about the things you like in life.

:-)

The other day when I was pulling out of the Safeway parking lot lo and behold there was a mid 70's Eldorado convertible parked facing the roadway with for sale signs in the windows. Too late for me to turn around and go back and I had to force myself against doing so. Light blue with a white top.
One of the guys from our club showed up at our Saturday flea market driving his 63 Mercury Park Lane convertible. How come all of a sudden I'm being taunted.

You're NEVER too old!

Say YAY for we *oldsters* 40 and over! I could care less about what people think about me! I rather enjoy being the eccentric type A personality that I am!

Thanks for posting that! I rather like it -- as someone who sometimes laments being 41 -- but other times sees the benefits in it, this quote ought to be a mantra :-)

It's true that it isn't that bad getting older and you can do whatever the H you want and who gives a D.
I was sure some of my neighbors must have been thinking I was a bit on the nutty side for going out in my field and flying kites but I think I started a trend because now I see kites flying in their yards

Schwinn Stingrays

Had 2 of them as a kid, and would stil love to have one today.

Both were stolen, first a plain jane green single speed, Second one was metal flake blue, modified to be a 10 speed, with the shifter on the crossbar. Decked out with spedometer, headlight/tailight/generator, carrier on front wheel, blue hadlebar grips with the imbedded metal flakes. The only thing it didn't have was the high "sissy" bar in back.

Fun Schwinn Bikes

From back to front: A 1972 Schwinn Manta Ray, a 1969 Schwinn Sting Ray Fastback, and a brand new reissue Schwinn Grey Ghost 5 Speed.

Tons of fun all...

Flippin' Fabulous!

Whoa Kevin! Spider bars and banana seats! Awesome! You sure have brought back some memories! I know for a fact that I can still ride one of those babies!! :-D
