It seems that Massachusetts is launching a suit, questioning the validity of the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA). Basically, they're saying DOMA requires Massachusetts to discriminate against same-sex couples, since DOMA prevents the state from allowing such couples to access some Federal protections and benefits, even though they're legally married under Massachusetts law. That means the state is being forced to treat opposite-sex and same-sex couples differently.

I think this is how civil rights are eventually going to happen, slowly. by chipping away at things one suit and one decision at a time...

It'll be a riot to see how Scalia and Thomas (and probably Roberts) contort their logic to defend the federal DOMA. And believe me, somehow they will try and defend it.

These hypocrites scream all day long about states' rights, until the states do something they personally don't like.

the enemy - lol

I love how they put the word marriage in scare-quotes as if the very word is being trampled. I guess it's their own call-to-arms just like the right-wing morons claiming Obama is a "radical socialist" (with scare-quotes!) to conjure images of Stalin and Hitler. LOL Same old whining, it never changes.

I agree with Sandy, equality will be dragged from the depths of court storerooms one small victory at a time.

Well, I also think there will be a snowballing effect; the more rulings there are, the more the weakness in the positions of states and the Feds. Eventually, things will crumble to the point where our remaining backwards brethren will have to bow to the inevitable.

Just remember, changes in the law are not the end of bad attitudes. Britain has gone through some problems with bashing, even though their national laws are far more enlightened than ours. Some citizens just don't want to get with the times, it seems.

Still, changes are happening I never thought I would see in my lifetime.

Yes, I noticed those quotes too. Made my blood boil, which I believe is part of their intended effect.

I find myself having an increasingly frequent fantasy, which involves a large congregation of these demonic hypocrites, and several flamethrowers. They're very good at dishing out fire and brimstone, I'd like to see how well they take their own medicine.

And for anyone who claims this is an extreme position, remember we've been burned alive in oil, stoned, lynched and castrated for 3500+ years because of "religion". (Now there's a proper use of quotation marks!)
