Ironrite Roller Pads & Covers

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

If you have the old cover, for size measurements, it's easy to make a new one. Basic burlap initially covers the metal roller. Then you wrap into the burlap cotton quilt batting. I was able to find mine at a local fabric store. Finally, the muslin cover. You will need to sew pockets into the side seams and use a cotton twine to cinch the cover up.

I found it easier to wrap the drum by hand for the burlap, then overlap the cotton batting and finally the muslin. When you wrap the muslin, you may want to turn on the heater to low as it helps "iron" the muslin and stretch it into place. Finally pull the cotton twine to cinch up and secure the cover. I used a fine weave muslin and pre washed, dryed and ironed to to help avoid stretching. Happy ironing!!

Thanks for all suggestions gang.

Was kind of hoping for an original Ironrite cover and pad to "keep things real" as they say, but in an pinch can run up my own. Yes, it is simple sewing, but really do not have the time at the moment and was eagar to try out my new baby. Have some old Speed Queen ironer covers somethere in my stash, will fetch it out and see if it fits.

Ironrite Portaway Ironer

Is all cleaned up and working perfectly. Used an new "old stock" SQ ironer cover had in storage and it fit perfectly. Getting the original Ironrite over off was a bear. It had to be vintage and never removed since the cording is a type of rope have not seen before, and the knot tying was again something one just does not see today.

This unit is so wonderful, but like the Thor GladIron, don't know how these were advertised as "light and portable" as it certianly takes some effort setting up. Neat thing is the motor is a General Electric (made in the USA, thank very much, 1HP motor). Though only 1100 watts of power (15 amp), on "cotton" this ironer is just as hot if not a tad hotter than my Pfaff. It is nice to have an ironer where the roller does not creep along, as well.

Will take some snaps soon as I can, but may have to wait until after the holiday season.
