While searching appliance shops by me today, I found an old Kenmore 800 in White with the dispenser on the right side. It has the metal console.
The guy that has the shop is "pricey" (175-200 for most washers) but it looks like they have been rebuilt nicely. When I asked about a early 70's Maytag, he said he had none, then I spotted the exact machine I was describing to him under some boxes and all covered in dust!
When I pointed it out to him, all he said was huh.. After more prodding he gave me a price of 175.00. The machine looked really mint still. It was too much for my small budget, but maybe someone else here might be interested?
If so, maybe I can go back and take a picture or two.
He seems as though he could care less if anything sold!

WOW...two Kenmores in one month!

Good luck Jason; I hope you go through with this one, and I know it's a hard decision when you see a not-so-nice machine (like there have been in the past) and are wondering whether to wait or not for a better one to show up. I think the wait paid off now...can't wait to see what this one looks like! :)

We'll see

Those old KM's are built like tanks and usually if the machine looks good, it probably was taken care of and needs minimal repairs. But it could be a rustbucket underneath. Maybe Dwight can go for another look and ask to test it out.

This one was on the guy's sales floor, he says the machines are rebuilt and gives a warranty, so when I go tomorrow to take pics, I will get the whole scoop on it.

Pictures as promised! you can see the Maytag in the background, he wouldn't even move the boxes as he was "busy"!

Wow, looks very nice! I see the bleach cup is missing, but I have that. Or was this one using the two-cup bleach/fabric softener dispenser?

If anyone needs something from this shop:
Pointe Appliance
23055 Gratiot Ave.
Eastpointe, Mi 48021
(586)776-4430
It says that they have been in business since 1928!

OMG Jason that is your dream machine. Maybe its time to take a drive to Michigan and realize your dream! If it has bad bearings or anything else it all can be replaced.

If someone wants something, and the appliance store won't help, I can take the item to my house and store it in the garage until arrangements can be made.

OMG!

That's gotta be a 71 or 72 because the face is a little different, and I bet it has the notched handle on the lid instead of the metal one. Compare to this pic which is my EXACT dream machine.

Would that truck driver friend of yours bring it to me? I can't take anymore time off to drive to get it and I'm not sure about the price of shipping these days.

The slight appearance doesn't matter. What would be the best way for me to get this down here? It is afterall my dream machine. And look how tall the control panel is compared to the boring 70s machine right next to it.

Your Truck Driver

Could you get him to come over to Fort Worth and bring a dryer too..
