To my knowledge, my local JCPenney still has not opened after the hurricane. Not sure how they would have had more damage than the other stores in the mall. Some stores had buckets collecting water from the roof damage, but JCP still closed down.

I didn't mind shopping at JCPenney, in fact shopped there more than the other mall stores as they had better sales. Belk and Bealls are way to expensive and the sales aren't really very good IMO.

One thing I noticed is, JCPenney's Stafford dress shirts have changed. They don't seem to breathe as well as my older ones, they seem to trap heat. Also some of the details such as the collar button that was on a elastic like tab are no longer included.

Remember a few years ago, JCPenney was using Apple iPhone like devices to scan your items and pay from anywhere in the store, think they had a card reader on them also, but haven't seen that in the last few years. Now all sales are at the typical registers.

Belk has the oldest point of sale stations that I've seen in the entire mall! They still use the old IBM green screen monitors that must be original from 1991!

I used to like the JCP St. John's Bay tee shirts, and they came in well over 25 colors. I had 8 or 10 in various colors at one time, and guess I have about 4 left now. I bought them around 2008 - 2011. After that time, they changed them, and reduced the number of colors. They didn't seem to be as thick of fabric, either. Since then, I switched to the Stafford tee shirts, and they seem to be better than the current SJB shirts. I've also bought several tees at Meijer, and the quality seems to be as good if not better, and actually cost less.

I didn't grow up shopping at JCP--they were at the two malls that flanked our mall so there was little reason to drive past Crestwood Plaza to get there. I just a few minutes ago put in an order for a new electric mattress pad (the fabric around the electric wires frayed on the old one so don't particularly trust it).

I used to shop st JCPenney more than anywhere else, but after the one at The Washington Mall closed I went less due to the distance.
However for the last year I now REFUSE to shop there due to their B.S. So-called return policy, and the useless department manager who refused to let me talk to her superior.

Haven't set foot in a JCPenney store for years, but purchase virtually all my clothes from them online.  In fact, received a shipment of dress shirts, ties, and black Dockers only last week.

As Cole mentioned in the original post, Stafford Super Shirts used to have an elastic band attached to the top button which made the collars very comfortable. I now buy the Stafford Travel line when possible because they emerge from the dryer fairly wrinkle-free.

I wish they offered the same solid colors in Super Shirts, Travel and Standard lines.  The standard shirts are fine, but they aren't as wrinkle-free as the Travel line.  I have to purchase from all three lines to get the colors I want.

If JCPenney online ever disappears, I will be the guy wearing a barrel, LOL.

Hmm, I seem to recall the latest Stafford shirts I bought were Travel line. My older ones were Super Shirts, maybe that's why the fabric is different. I didn't recall seeing Super Shirts when I bought them, but maybe I overlooked some.

I still have Super Shirts from 2008 that still look great other than the edges of the collar are a little faded for some reason.

I think I like the Staffords most because they come so wrinkle free. I've bought a lot of other brands from the discount stores, some name brand, others names I hadn't heard of and I think the Staffords fit me the best. I just wish these newer ones breathed better, I feel suffocated in them.

The St. John's Bay line seems to have been scaled back in recent years as mentioned above.

I went through the appliance department at my JC Penny at the mall--so not surprising it would sell GE appliances, given how decades ago that their appliances were made by GE's Hotpoint division...

There were also Frigidaires, reminding me of an old catalog from the 1980's that I saw White-Westinghouse appliances in, when they'd attempted to revive applause sales, though long after terminating their own brand...

Seems like they will definitely give Sears a run for their money--the department seemed warm, friendly & home-like, as opposed to a more conventional appliance store setting that most retailers & specialty stores, in a rather cold approach, have long-used...
