that Frigidaire dryer sure does have a unique backsplash on it. I can't quite make out from the pic you posted is it on pedestals?

I think that 1957 was the only year for pedestal-mounted timer controls on Frigidaire laundry appliances.

Jon, are you talking about the small picture showing a white dryer? That's the one that was the ad for Paul's dryer, it's a Norge!
If you're talking about the "colonial copper" ones, they are "N" series Gold Crowns, the one on the left being a very basic model with no heat selections and timed drying only, the one on the right is the equivalent of the DCDAN (that would match your Rollermatic washer) with a different console.
About the '62 pushbuttons,
That's right John! That's what I meant with my previous post (4 pushbuttons have the same function - or 3 are useless!).
On the '65 Custom Imperial I got from you, there are still 6 pushbuttons but just 3 do the same action (or just two are useless)!
At least in 1966 with the electronic sensor dryers like the one you have, they replaced the useless buttons with a start and a cancel button so all 6 pushbuttons have a different function!

Look at those low heater wattages for those dryers in that chart: 4400 watts for the vented models. Most electric air-flow dryers had about 5KW of heat at the time, with Maytag HOH and Hamiltons being two exceptions. Old Filtrators had two 2200 watt elements right in there with the fabrics for broil-drying action. In these dryers, they were behind the drum so fabrics were not exposed to the direct radiant heat. No wonder they were slow drying compared to GEs.
