My mother's KA dryer KEYE670BWH2 apparently overheated on a load couple days ago. She took the clothes out before the cooldown finished, said they were much hotter than normal for the low/delicate temperature setting. On the next load today, the dryer won't run at all. She can hear the timer running but nothing else. Breakers are OK.

At what point does the thermal fuse in the blower housing and/or element housing come into play? Would the fuse(s) blow if the operating 'stat failed, or would the element's 250°F overheat 'stat come into play first to prevent overheating? Perhaps it coincidentally failed at the same time? Would a blown thermal fuse prevent the motor from running?

Just looking for some hints before I go there for an examination.

What's a procedure to test if the bi-metal operating and/or safety 'stats are bad? I've heard to place them face-down in an electric skillet set at an appropriate temp to test if they cut in/out properly. Or is it just a matter of the-dryer-got-too-hot-so-the-stats-must-be-bad?

The thermal fuse is wired to the motor circuit. If the operating thermostat fails to open to shut off the heat, the thermal fuse will trip. Replace the thermal fuse (p/n 3392519) AND the operating 4 wire thermo (p/n 3387134). Hope this helps!!
