KDP-18 parts available, good tub fits other series?

Our recent KDP-18 Patrician acquisition has sacrificed it's good door for our KDI-18, thus now some good parts are available for those in need, (free or hobbyist prices, ie. cheap! not eBay prices). Am saving the motor and a few other common parts as spares for our Imperial. Porcelain tub is good, and may fit other series... does anyone know for sure?? Will donate the good tub free to anyone here at AW.o to avoid taking it to the scrapper!

-tub clean with good porcelain, one small strictly surface rust spot under rear of dryer vent. Free

The tub design changed with the addition of the upper wash arm in the 18 series. IIRC the 18 and 19 series shared a tub.

18 and 19 loners!

The 18 tub was exclusive to itself And remember, not all of the tanks had the sump heaters in them either. Just as the 19 is a stand alone.The 18 did not preheat the water so it lacks the thermostat probe in the sump like the 19 and 20's had on the right side. The 21 and 22 lost that probe and used a different sensor.
And the main difference between the 19's and all the rest of the machines before and right after it(20 series) is that there is no Flow thru heating dryer duct. It used the Plastic housing Blower which also had a retaining screw that went thru the tank to hold it in place under the tank.The diffuser for the air was made of plastic too.

Now, you can use the 18 tank if it has the sump element in it on a 21 and 22 and gain the addition of the constant rinse,plus the strength of the full frame chassis that goes from top to bottom of the tank and not the small subframe that they had on the 21 thru 23 series. Makes for a more stable machine IMHO.

The pumps, fortunately are all the same size from the 18 thru 22 so you can swap the 21 and 22 in to the 18 tank easily. You will need to use the 21 or 22 door because the rinse dispenser is the single hole, bimetal type and the 18 used the 2 hole, solenoid type dispenser.

Just as a point of reference, I have had my 18 for nearly 30 years and I only had it in an actual 18 tank for maybe 3 of those 30 years and it has been in a 20 series tank for the balance. It is in its 2nd tank which was brought to me by Ed, Toploader55 a few years ago. I don't miss the constant rinse as it has the manifold that has the small slit in it that sprays water out on top of the dishes and mimics the constant rinse operation without having to worry about breaking it off!

that was a regular post-graduate level couse in KA tanks... thanks Steve!! This one is in really excellent conditon, and hope someone can use it somehow, someway,... it about kills me to scrap stuff like this!

Anyone who wants parts can have free or cheap.. forgot to mention: top and bottom racks, not perfect but usable condition, also free to a good home!

makes a great small bench grinder table frame,that's how we re-purposed ours.

Sump element?

Roger, does the tank have the sump element in it? I checked the parts manual that I have and it did not show one,yet they made a KDC18A which did have one and also the plastic blower on it. I would not be surprised if they built a bunch of them as tests for the upcoming 19 series to see how they would work.

I find the constant rinse in my KDS-18 (I have the updated one) to perform better than the slitted manifold. Flinging water around seems to knock the yibbles off better than a static spray. Just my observations.

 

Hey Steve, is it possible to adapt the SR-24 upper wash arm to the KDS-18 for a constant rinse on steroids? I was looking at the diagram and the only problem I see is that the upper wash arm hangs down a bit far.

The 18 Patrician tank does not have the holes for the sump-mounted heating element or the hole for the thermostat for the Sani-Rinse, but it would certainly be good for Custom, Imperial and other Patrician 18 series machines.

The constant rinse is, to me, a valuable asset. The only thing I have found to equal it is the deflector mounted in the top of the tank of the Kenmore Ultra-Clean. An off-center jet in the top of the tube that comes up in the middle of the upper rack sprays a changing pattern of water against this and it keeps yibblets from coming to rest on the tops of things.

Anyone want the tub? ... the neighbors may not appreciate our new "lawn sculpture" so it may not stick around too long LOL! The small stuff I can store in the garage.
