Kenmore BD in Coppertone

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Yes, that was the beginning of Kenmore's transition to the new control panel style and the ex-large capacity drum. The control panel style first came out in 1974. I believe the black-face control panels came out either that fall of 1975 or spring of 1976. My parents got a 70 series set for the lake house late winter/early spring of 1976.

C'mon Toggle!

Interesting control panel, and how can anyone resist Coppertone? Steve, you know there is always room for one more washer! ;-)

Thanks y'all

:-(

I would LOVE to, but I have to move to a teeny-tiny apt in the city for two or three years.

I'll be sneaking in the circa 1990 GG FF as it is!

I am sure you will all SHREIK in delight when you see the B4 photos of THAT upcoming place! Not sure where exaclty where yet, but it will be a mess. They always are.

Ok then fine about the washer. Get a storage unit for a machine that you will say-- Oh if only I had bought that one when I could have.

Why do you HAVE to get a small apt. for 2 - 3 years? Will it really be a mess and a lot of work. Do you have to pay real high rent then clean up someone elses crap?

Ok I'd take the Kenmore and find a nice small house, say Amityville - Mellville - Huntington??????

scan scan...

I'll scan the page of the catalog tonight, that style washer came in two widths, and was pair-able with one dryer.
I had a neighbor who if I reemmber right had that same model machine.

from the Catalog

I don't know if its the same, but this looks alot like that machine, from Sears Spring and Summer 1975 big book

Bob, thanks for the information...very strange for Sears to drop this design after only 1-2 years, IMHO. Personally I like this "chrome-y" style of control panel a LOT better than the later black-face versions, and wish there were more of these around. There was a similar machine from 1974 on eBay in Harvest a while back, complete with the original manual and a manual for a 1-18 dryer! The panel still looked great too!

Also, now that we're on the subject of BD Kenmore control panels, there was a variation of the black-face panel with the center timer dial, but semi-vertical knobs for temperature and water level!! Unless it was one of these chrome-face machines, I saw this style machine on Craigslist near Dallas a while back in Avocado (looked bad and had mechanical problems; I didn't want it), and for those of you who have the Convention 2002 DVD, run through Jason's intermission slideshow and you'll see what I'm referring to. It's a "junkyard" machine with a plastic tub ring and (anachronistic) Whirlpool agitator cap from the 1950's, but the strange control panel was what amazed me. Can anyone provide some insight on when this was offered; it appears to be during the same time as this chrome panel.

Looking at the picture in the auction, the additional knobs would have been mounted on the diagonal strip slightly above the timer knob.
