Does anyone know how to remove the back panel on my Kenmore model 82980120 Automatic Washer? I am experiencing extremely slow filling and want to check for obstructions in the flow path. Any help would be appreciated.

Slow filling

Have you checked obvious things like clogged filter screens either in fill hoses or in the water inlet valve? Might save having to dig into the guts of the machine. There are ALWAYS filter screens in the water valve, and there might be combo washer/filter screens in the hoses where they screw to the faucets.

Since you have a Direct Drive washer, check the screen at the valve, you must pull the machine away from the wall and remove the hose from the machine and not the faucet. If you see a build up on the screen, clean with a toothbrush only! DO NOT REMOVE SCREEN OR DAMAGE TO THE VALVE WILL OCCUR!

Turn on water though the hose to make sure you have enough water pressure going through, if that checks out OK and the valves screens are clear, then the valve may need to be replaced.

P.S., check and see if screens are placed on the faucet end too!!!

I agree on the plugged filters in the hose.

You can't remove the back on a DD,you remove the whole cabinet.UNPLUG the machine, take out 2 screws that hold the console in place.Flip the console back, and you will see 2 large clips that hold the cabinet to the rest of the washer.Remove the 2 clips, with a large screwdriver, unplug the connector for the lid switch, and lift the cabinet off.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the issue at hand--but that's not going to prevent me from sharing!
We had a '69 Kenmore. Forget the model, but I still have the instruction manual. Anyhoo, it was ALWAYS slow in filling, even from day one. We had good water pressure and all screens were clean. But still, it looked like the water was just sort of *dripping* into the tub. This machine was later replaced by another Kenmore--'82 maybe--and it filled significantly faster.
