Kenmore Oasis

Ross and I just came back from the local Sears store here in Tucson.......To our surprise we saw a Kenmore Oasis with the disc in the tub bottom and one with an auger agitator-very flexible rubber vanes. Machines both looked the same-the agitator machine did not have a window.
What does anyone make of this?

I just checked out the Sears Web-Site and the new Elite Oasis Washers and Dryers are listed now. They have several Models shown, including the Disk Wash Action and the newer Flex-Care Agitator Models and they are shown also in a few different Colors of Availability, including the Blue and Gray {whatever they call those colors} that the HE-4 Washers and Dryers are available in.

They certainly aren't going to be in my "Wish List" Price-Wise, at least not until they become available as 2nd Hand Machines.

Roger, I'm curious too about this.

Bob, I didn't see much discussion in that thread about the differences between the disk and agitator wash units, so hopefully someone will enlighten us with some pics at some point.

The 3.8 cu. ft. agitator model is an energy-star deep fill washer. It has an automatic water level sensing feature or 4 distinct selectable water levels. This unit replaces the former Catalyst model. 1000 rpm maximum spin.

Hey! magic clean, did you happen to mean to say that the Oasis was a replacement for the Calypso Washers instead of the Catalyst Washers? The Calypso is the Washer with the "Bouncing Wash Plate" and the Catalyst is the Washer with an actual Agitator Wash/Rinse Action. The Calypso is the later of the 2-Machines that came available and it seemed to have the most problems with it at least in the beginning. Both the WP/Kenmore Models should have been mentioning about suggesting to use "HE" Detergents, because of the Oversudzing problems that they had. If I'm correct I believe that the Oversudzing also tended to Burn-Out the Pumps, besides possibly causing other problems as well.

According to the Whirlpool tech here in Orlando,Fl.that services laundry equipment for Sears and Best Buy,the Calipso style washers were so bad that once Whirlpool decided to discontinue them not only for themselves but also for Sears,the repairmen threw a party.He said "They just weren't sturdy enough to handle the abuse given out by customers who were either too ignorant to figure out what HE detergent use ment or those who could aford to but them could also aford a maid that usualy either couldn't read or couldn't speak a word of English.""So they'd either use the wrong type of detergent,overload the washer,or physicaly abuse the controls."

No Steve, leslioe DID INTERNIONALLY MEAN Catalyst. Totally different than Calypso.

Hmm, a WP traditional type toploader with 1000 rpm spin. Things are looking up. Now if that auger acutally only went up & down lol.

I had the same thought Glenn, ever since I saw it on their web site a week or so ago. Don't forget F&P makes the motor and the stainless tub too.

Bob, but the Oasis has taken place of the Calypso, not the Catalyst and I do know the difference, if you had read what I wrote, I did comment about the difference in the way that they Wash/Rinse, where-being that the Calypso uses the Wash Plate and the Catalyst uses an actual Agitator.

I'm still thinking that it was misdiagnosed and would prefer to hear directly from the source for sure.

If I understand this all well the Oasis replaces both. The Oasis with the agitator replaces the Catalyst and the one with the wash plate the Calypso.

Sacto, the Oasis washers fit into 2 catagories.

*High efficiency (low water) like Calypso

*Energy Star (deep fill) like Catalyst & other Kenmore models

Calypso continues to be available in both brands.

By the way, HE detergents are recommended-mandatory in the machines mentioned above. There are informational labels on the machines and extensive text in the owners manuals.
