Kenmore SoftHeat - How does it work?

Rooky question here.

Have read about the SoftHeat feature several times.
Never got quite the info I looked for.

So, it says it reduces heat.

Does that mean the thermostat just cycles more?
Does the thermostat actually change temperature?
Or does it somehow vary heater output?

Soft Heat

It has a two stage heater,smaller and larger.The smaller element stays on and maintains a steady temp.

I think in the 70’s some Whirlpool and Kenmore 29” dryers only had a 18,000 btu heat output to maintain a steady temperature without have a modulating gas valve and I could be wrong about that.

The 1956 Whirlpool Imperial gas dryer I tinkered with last summer had a 25,000 btu heat output but since it has the delicate fabric guide I believe it throttles the burner to a lower heat output and the 1956 Whirlpool dryer Paul has, has 3 temperature settings. If you were to put it on the delicate fabric guide but if you put it on the hot or medium setting you would have a soft heat dryer since the heat output would be lower be would awhile before it reaches up to temperature and again I could be wrong about that but the Whirlpool/Kenmore dryers of the mid 50’s had a wide array of temperature options
