Hi, All. I found a Kirby G4 the other day at a Goodwill. It is in excellent condition. When I washed the outer bag in my WP Duet on the hand wash cycle. I found very bent pennies and a 1 inch screw bent badly too. How can a plastic fan not be destoyed by such hard items. Please let me know....Bill in Az....

Thats just plain luck....

Or perhaps the fan has already been replaced at some point?
Enjoy the Kirby, nice cleaner

I've used my G4 to clean up dried thinset when I was tiling the house. I'd avoid large chunks of it, but no problems picking it up. It's also picked up coins too and no problems.

Now when I had a dual 50 years ago, it accidently picked up a lug nut from a truck. That did shatter the fan and knocked the front bearing loose. But a trip to vacuum shop, rewelded the bearing and a new fan and that vac worked very well after that.

Kirby vac question......

Hi, Petek. I totally love that Kirby!!!! I also have a G3. (Boreing color) Im glad that they still make "direct-air" uprights. Those "Clean-air" types are awefull. They always clog, they have a high-pitch screeming sound (cheap) and thats why they need 12 amp motors instead of 7 amps like my Kirbys. I'll bet my Kirbys could stop one of those newer uprights if I connected the Kirby hose to any other upright's hose. I'd bet the Kirby would stop the other vacuums while they were running. Let me know what you think.....Bill in Az....

Well Bill I don't know if it would stop one of the others, maybe someone here's tried it already or will LOL.
I have a G3 along with a Heritage Legend II, Classic III, Tradition and Dual 80. Love em all, but I like the Legend II the best for manouverability. The tech drives are great but when they're not running or in neutral they're a little clunky and you don't want to go picking them up at all by the handle.
G3, very boring looker, almost antiseptic, but I only paid something like $24 and it's pristine so who am I to complain.

I have used Kirby's all my life and never had problems with fan blades. My mother's 508 picked up a Silver Dollar from under the couch. It did not break the fan but did put a crack in the fan housing. I think pet owners have more problems with fan breakage. It is just a guess on my part, but the oils in a pets skin and if there are ever any accidents from the pets react to the plastic in the fan and make it weaker. As a young person I used the vacuum for everything, cleaning the car, the basement, even took them to work with me and used them. Never picked up anything. If it was in the path of the vacuum it went into the vacuum.

Ummmm......

If you put the ends of a kirby hose and a riccar clean air upright together, the riccar will suck the air out of the kirby bag. In fact a lot of clean air vacuums have much more suction than a kirby. We use that as a cheap tactic sometimes to sell a vacuum.

Buuuuut a Kirby would outclean carpeting over a Riccar clean-air vac. Kirby's have lots of airflow, where a Riccar doesn't have much at all.

There are very quiet clean-air vacuums, you just gotta find em :)
