My old workhorse, KDI-17, is sick. Runs fine through the cycle but doesn't fill with water. I've been adding water buy opening the door at each step of the cycle. Works fine that way. Can anyone help? Don't want to replace it! Bought a new refrigerator and was telling the guys that were delivering it that I had my old one for 30 years. They said my new one won't last that long. Don't want to lose my vintage dishwasher. Thanks in advance!!!!

Hi There.

1. Could someone have possibly shut off the water to the dishwasher by accident (Like in shutting off the silcocks outside for the winter ?)

2. Could be a loose wire on the fill solenoid valve. Or just kinda corroded off after all these years ?

3. Vermin ? There is a recent thread about another KitchenAid with the same issue.

4. Is there something wedged under the Over fill Protect Float ? Watch that it moves up and down and clicks when you do.

5.Oh yeah... There is a tiny hole in the sump on the left hand side that sometimes fills up with debris hampering the pressure switch

6. Could be the Pressure Switch.

I'll let the Experts chime in and refine what I have said so far : )

Good Luck and I hope you get it fixed.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Can you tell me more about the location of the pressure switch? That and the solenoid seem like they could be the culprits. Water is on, no vermin and no visible signs of corrosion.

Non Filling KD-17 KA DW

Most common problems with these DWs are a bad inlet valve or possible over-fill pressure switch.

There is also a possibility that the sensing tube leading from the sump to the pressure tube is blocked with rust or other crud and this will sometimes cause the switch to stick open.
