When I was in middle school in the mid 1970's this book: 1975: and the Changes to Come was 13 years old (copyright 1962) When it was being discarded, the librarian gave it to me. I thought you might like to see what the kitchen of 1975 was suposed to be like. BTW This is the kitchen designed by Kelvinator.

Push a button, get a meal. Among tomorrow's "wife-savers" is this working model of a combination electronics oven and food freezer. meals are prepared in advance and stored in the individual freezer compartments, each one labeled on the corresponding push buttons. At dinner time, the housewife pushed the appropriate buttons; an in less than half an hour, the full meal emerges at teh rear ind of the appliance, hot and ready to serve. (How very Jetsons)

Automatic Dishmaker. Designed primarily for picnics, children's parties or snacks, this plastic dishmaker needs only sixty seconds to produce a plate, bowl, cup or glass. Sheet plastic fed to the machine by the housewife is all that is needed to do the job.

Last of the Kitchen Gadgets

Wshes Dishes Ultrasonically. High frequency sound waves energize the water to wash the dished in this ultrasonic dishwasher. Ultrasonic washers are more efficient than existing types; they scour without scratching, remove backed on matter readily, and wash much faster than any type now in use. The same principle of ultrasonic cleaning will be applied to washing machines within another decade.

Wow!!!

How very interesting!! I always love seeing stuff that predicted what furture life would be like, especially when you see it after that predicted time has passed!!

I'm sure that book is fascinating. It's probably one of your treasures. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Glenn - that object unmistakably looks like a late 50's GE Stratoliner range in that photo! And to think AMC was promoting this kitchen of the future - hehe.

Joe - thanks for taking the time to scan and post these really cool photos - a glimpse of the future from the past is always a fun trip ~
