I thought some of you might enjoy seeing these products in action during Thanksgiving. They're all owned by my aunt who has no use sentimental attachment; it's just that they've continued to work. She's been pressing my uncle for a new kitchen for at least 20-years. About 5-years ago, the matching yellow GE SxS American fridge pooped (I'm sure it could have been fixed) but it got replaced with some imitation stainless junk.

This was/is a very high-end home when new ('72-ish) and now is more of an ultra-clean and functional time capsule.

The river/beach house we stayed at over Thanksgiving had late model kitchen appliances in stainless and we made good use of them all.  LG SxS fridge, LG over-the-stove microwave, Magic Chef gas range, and Bosch dishwasher.

The oven was kind of squirrely (and I'm spoiled by the ball bearing racks on my Icon), but the real disappointment was the dishwasher.  Stuff came out worse than it went in.  I tried to clean the filter but it wasn't the same as my Miele's, and had a cylinder that apparently always looks like it's coated with grungy residue.  I went out and bought Lemishine and that was a big help.  Still, I wasn't at all impressed with the Bosch's rack configuration or its build quality.  The wash arms seemed particularly flimsy.

I think part of the trouble with the Bosch could be blamed on the on-demand water heater.  There were times I couldn't get hot enough water at the kitchen sink.  Showering was fine, but the way that heater behaved reminded me of the antique "instantaneous" water heater a friend of mine had in his Victorian farm house.  Apparently the basic system design hasn't improved in more than 100 years.
