Okay, as promised here are some pics of my kitchen which is currently a work in progress.

The only thing I've done so far is paint the non-wallpapered walls turquoise (they were a horrible terracotta brown that made the wood cabinets looks super dull) and I painted the trim a nice teal color. I've also had my husband take out the track lights that used to be in the center of the ceiling and replaced them with retro bullet shaped track lights. Right now the hubby is patching the ceiling, hence the ladder in some of the pics. Plus, he is replacing the circular recessed light that used to be in the ceiling with a nice rectagnular one I found from 1948 on eBay. I've also bought a few vintage appliance and ceramic items.

The newest addition, besides the stove that I will be picking up tomorrow (hooray!) is the hood range. The previous ones had a, what I assumed to be almond colored hood, but with the lack of cleaning it received the build up of grease that I could not fully get off made it look a bit darker (ewwww!). So now there is a nice bright white hood to compliment my stove.

The things I still have to do (I'll make it short, promise) is:
Replace the now yellowed vinyl floor tile with black and white commercial grade vinyl floor tiles.

Take down those horrible, bent metal blinds and replace with cool curtains I found.

Take down the rest of the wall paper and paint the walls turquoise.

Replace plain counter top laminate with cool retro laminate that I found and add chrome edging.

Replace sink with double drain board sink (once I find one).

And get my 1956-57 Kelvinator Food-A-Rama

Everything else I want to do will be minor.

Enjoy!

You're really going to town

Can't wait to see the finished kitchen. That microwave has to go or be hidden lol. Since there weren't any in the 40's and 50's. BUT...I think it was Danby who has one that's stainless with a round porthole window that looks the part. Is that a blue Sunbeam mixer and a yellow GE electric can-opener..you can send me the yellow can opener when you tire of it. Here's a pic of my Silex Blendette... there's a black one on Ebay currently..nice to look at, hopeless for anything but soft stuff or liquids.

I'm tryin'

Yeah, I know the microwave is out of place, completely. But I can't bear to be seperated from my beloved microwave. In my opinion, microwaves do not get the respect that they deserve, lol

I'm trying to think of a creative way to "hide" my microwave, but still have it around.

I love the Sunbeam can opener and mixer, usually you can find them both on ebay for decent prices, especially the can opener. They can go for pretty cheap. I think I got mine for $9 and it works beautifully.

I love your blender! I have an Oster blender that just sits in my hutch and isn't doing anything. In fact, it hasn't done anything for 4 years because I never use the darn thing, lol

I'm going to be replacing my toaster oven with a Dominion Toaster Oven that I just won off of ebay for $15. It comes with the original packaging and instruction book, woo hoo!

Oh, and today is the day for to pick up my old new stove! I definitely post pics of that!

Neat kitchen! How old is your house? Mine has cabinets similar and was built in the early 50s. Enjoy your remodel!
