Is this Kitchenaid stainless steel model a good cleaning reliable dishwasher? Lowe’s has it marked down from $899.00 to $599.00 until December 3, 2020. With my Lowe’s card I get an additional 5% discount.

The GE model #GDT655SSJ5SS DW that came with our new home in Feb 2019 is now leaking from the door vent seal. I have cleaned it out and tighten it numerous times. To replace the yellow foam seal requires me to disconnect the unit, pull it out, tilt it back and take apart the entire door assembly to replace a 50 cent seal. I don’t have the time, patience or energy to do it.

It is not cleaning all that great either. It’s leaving undissolved detergent residue in the top rack on top of items like glasses, cups, blender, food processor etc that holds waster. Water is hot (140 degrees) coming into the DW plus we use the high temp wash setting. We use Finish power ball tabs. We use it daily and I keep the bottom removable filter clean. I think It’s time for a new dishwasher!!!

Any advice or opinions on the Kitchenaid would be greatly appreciated!!!

Peace and good health, David

@pierreandreply4 is your mom's dishwasher not level?

Looks like the gap between the door and countertop is larger on the left side than the right. Was the washer level checked during installation?

no the place where it leak is from a bump on the main body a defect on the unit since it was a floor demo but when store clercs put the unit in to show for sale they bump the unit it was perfectly level since it was install by a or regular service tech the small hole you see on the main body on the pic is where the dishwasher leak

Thanks Appnut!!! One important question, is it very quiet? Our town home has the open concept with the living room, dining room and kitchen as one big open area.

Thanks for the advice Pierreandreply4!!! The KDEFE204HPS is out of our price range/budget at $799.00 versus $599.00 in North Carolina. 2 or 3 times a year Lowes will run a great sale on items that are no longer manufactured or they have over stock.

Thanks again for the advice!!!

Peace and good health!!!

Maytag model #MDB4949SKZ

What does everyone think about this new model from Maytag? I know that Whirlpool owns Kitchenaid and Maytag. Like the Kitchenaid it is on sale for $599.00 at Lowes.

They must be a good DW. They are on backorder about 5 to 10 days out.

Thanks!
David

David, the KitchenAid is rated at 46 dB and the Maytag specs state it's rated at 50 dB. The KA has a filter that needs to be checked. The Maytag has the dual-power filtration system--simlar to my Clean Water Wash system, but adds a "chopper". I have noticed in reviews the Maytag is having failures with the pump because of the chopper. Probably used a cheap metal again, just like they did at the beginning of the tall tub dishwashers with soft-food disposer. I'd go with the KA.

Maytag MDB4949

I bought the Maytag a few months back due to the self-cleaning filter...the first one had a loud buzz from the pump and had to be replaced...the washing is just ok...I have tried baked-on casseroles on the max cycle and heat, and they are still dirty...it is very quiet...the drying is disappointing...though I have a water softener, and use the rinse-aid liquid, there is water remaining on the cutlery basket, and any plastic in the top rack...the detergent dispenser is designed to allow water in during the initial wash/rinse, so if you use anything but a Finish tablet, it will have essentially dissolved by the main wash...I wouldn't buy another one...

Normal wash is between 1:51-2:10hr. If it senses really dirty soil it will trip into hi-temp wash which is around 3:00hr.

Thanks

I appreciate all the information, video, pics and personal experiences!!!

My wife didn’t want to spend the money right now. The Lowe’s sale ended and the price on the KA went from $569.00 (with my Lowe’s card) back to $804.00. I was very disappointed and upset to say the least!!! I hate to baby sit appliances!!! I’m a turn it on and come back to clean dishes kind of guy!!!

So we move into year 2021 with a leaky DW that moderately cleans. We keep a small towel on the floor to the left side of the door when we wash a load of dishes. Oh well time will tell!!!

Hopefully the sale will return around president’s day.

Thanks for letting me rant and rave!!!

Happy holidays to everyone!!!
