I have had a KD14 pump drain model since 1960. After several years of absence from the house , it apears the drain valve O-ring has failed, allowing all water taken in to drain before doing any good. My questions: Is this O-ring available (original part #63975) and if so where? If not, does anyone know the ring diameter and thickness precisely enough to amount to a specification for substitution? Where would one look for that?

Looking at the steps required to replace the O-ring, the one problem that jumps out is the difficulty in getting a spring clamp removal plier in position to squeeze the wings on the spring clam around the attached large hose. Any experience with this??

I would like to save this machine afer decades of keeping it going with new and salvaged parts. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Patersona

Hello and Welcome.

The first person that comes to mind with the answer is stevet.  He works for Hobart and is just pretty much non stop knowledge when it comes to anything Hobart.

I would think that O-ring is still available. The Drain Valve itself is not. It would be rare to find a valve these days.

Steve is around. I'm sure he'll pop up soon.

Oh, Boy...

The part number you supplied is not even recognized anymore in the Hobart Database. Something in the far reaches of my memory wants to say that it was changed over to a standard Hobart o-ring number starting with the number 067500 with a suffix number after it.
I will have to do some digging and let you know if we can get it for you.
They sell those spring clamp pliers but if you can't find one, I can always ship mine to you. You won't be able to find the hose from the overflow to the drain valve anymore but can surely rig something up. Those hoses were notoriously brittle even when only a few years old and not decades old.
If you remove the valve, you will need the gasket which you will have to make as well.

One other alternative is to actually install the oring from inside the machine but it is very difficult and you would have to see if you are capable of getting your fingers into the drain space and work the ring over the boss on the drain valve. Nearly impossible and probably not worth the risk of chewing up your fingers.

I already put in a call for some deeper research from my peeps in Troy, Ohio!

" O " Ring For An Old KA DW Drain Valve

These are easy to find, the hard part is taking the drain valve etc apart to get to it. But finding a generic " O " ring that fits is not going to be a problem, if possible try and get a silicone rubber " O " ring they seal a lot better in these old DVs, we have had better luck the more compliant silicone rubber O rings.

Here is your OEM part number

The drain valve uses a Hobart Part Number 00-067500-00027 O-ring. Hundreds available from any Hobart parts dept or at their E-Store.

They are $4.12 apiece and come as a minimum qty of 5 You should be able to walk into the D.C. office and get them and they may break the qty up for you.
Hope this helps
Steve
