The movie "The Moon is Blue" has a scene in which Maggie MacNamara uses a dishwasher which reminds me of a KDC-15 I once knew. TCM is bringing the (1958) film back tomorrow nigh (2/28) at 10 pm west coast, but probably later in the east. Would the 15 be right for 1958, or is it earlier?

Kate:

A KDC-15 would be from the 1965 through 1968 model years; The Moon is Blue is too early for that model to have been made.

The exact production dates for the 15 Series were October of 1964 through April of 1968.

not quite the 50's

If they do in fact show the 15 series in that movie, then the props dept got it wrong. The 15 series was brought to market in 1964. So it should have been a 12 series and at best a 14 series. Take note of the control panel and see if it had the push down or turn handle and maybe push buttons.

How about trying to take a picture of it from the tv and post it?

Steve:

The Moon is Blue is not a modern movie meant to depict the '50s - it's actually a movie made in the '50s (1953 to be exact).

So, unless Otto Preminger was able to find a prop man with a time machine at his disposal, there's no way a 15-Series machine could be in the movie.

I'm not sure of the model, only that it has the same vertical turn handle mounted on a triangular base which I think I associate with a former KDC. You're absolutely right about its being made in 1953; I misread my hasty notes from last night. I suspect it is whatever model would fit that year.

Thanks for the critique. I'll try to take a photo.
