Screeching KDS, 17 a
Remove the lower access panels and check for any signs of leaking. Worst case scenario the motor bearings are failing, but it may just need a pump rebuild. Sometimes the advanced motor will make a screeching noise which is a little concern. It may keep working for a long time, but the screeching goes on as the main motor is running. It’s a little more serious.

Thanks. I should have been more descriptive, I guess.
When we turned on the dishwasher, there was a sound similar to a metallic screech immediately, and continuing while the water was entering the "tub". The first time this happened we opened the door and there was lots of water in the tub, so we hit the "drain" button, and most of the water drained. The next time we tried, there was little water coming in. Can I assume that it's the water inlet valve? or the pump?

If it only makes the sound while water is coming in, it’s a bad inlet valve. The inlet valve is on for about one minute and then shut off. If this is the only time it makes a sound it’s the valve.
And if it’s only doing it during the fill cycle, you really don’t have to do anything about it unless it’s so loud that it bothers you.

Our KDI-17A (Imperial) filled for two timer increments (2 mins) for the normal level. The 1/2-fill line purge hard-coded at the start of all cycles was one timer increment (1 min). The Superba reasonably should exhibit the same pattern, although it may do a line purge only for the Soak cycle. Does it do a 1/2-fill for the final rinse to shorten the heating time if Sani is selected?
