Short video of my KDS-18E after replacing the motor run capacitor. The original one had exploded, and it's entire inside contents were outside. Test run is completed outside with the lower front cover removed.

Very interesting dishwasher, it's radically different exterior wise than the models here in the states.

Very Nice!!

Beautiful stainless interior and it retains the 3 level wash system. Interesting that the rinse aid is located on the opposite side of the door compared to the US version. I'm not seeing a float/switch but it could be the angle of the shot.

Can we get a picture of the stainless tub with the lower rack removed, please?

Love The SS Interior

I always though it was a shame that Hobart discontinued the SS tank option on the TOL model after the KDS18 series here in the US.

 

Hopefully you can get some good use out of this DW, most parts are pretty plentiful for these machines.

1989 commercial Hobart dishwasher

On Saturday Jason was refurbishing this Hobart dishwasher he’s turning it into a parts washer for his basement shop, to wash vacuum cleaner parts etc.

 

  It has a 6000 W heater in a separate tank for 208 operation. We put it on 120 V lines will take longer to heat up as it will only put out about 1500 Watts.

 

A few pictures you can see that they use basically the same tank that used in the above machine This commercial model uses the motor and pump assembly from an 18 through 20 series KitchenAid.

Amazing machine.

I love the stainless interior on an old style KitchenAid.

Not sure about the upper rack modifications. It looks weird to me, since I am used to the North American KitchenAid top-rack.

But still looks like an amazing dishwasher. Better than the expensive cheaply built crap being made now.

Were these manufactured in Australia?

It's the same as the KitchenAid dishwasher that was on the market here in Europe. The European version was made in France.

The advertising for the KitchenAid dishwasher in France, had the american style Kitchenaid.
According to the picture in the ad, the tub is porcelain enamel, and the upper rack and the control panel are like the american version. Maybe they changed it afterwards. But this is the only french ad that I ever saw for a Kitchenaid dishwasher in France.

Steve, that French KA is based on the KDS17. John's Austraian one is of the same genreation as the KDS18.

Showing its age, as states its made in West Germany. Also, it cost AUD$699 in 1979,which in 2022 is equivalent of AUD$3800. Wow!

Interesting options not available in the US

"Hot "n" Cold Connections"

Not available in the US for sure. It also mentions a cold fill will lengthen the cycle. Did these timers have a thermostatical hold?!

"Optional Water Softening System"

Also comes with a salt indicator light when low on salt. Appears to be adjustble.

"Rinse Aid indicator light"

Comes with it's own indicator light when low on rinse aid. Also appears to be adjustable.

Yup, I'm totally jealous!

Water heating

I think that the timer waits for water to come up to correct temperature. Pictured is the thermostat sensor and switch body for this. I have no circuit diagram, so not 100% sure.
