Another KA DW I have which seems to be a bit of a fave among KA lovers~KUDA220T, circa 1990.
Thought I'd post a few pics as there's no such thing as too many appliance pics!

This is the model with the Gold Label 1/2 HP motor, heated air dry option. The panels have been reversed to white (it's all it came with when I got it--reverse are almond--feh!) The white is very clean/immaculate, but panels themselves are dented and warped here on there and very scratchy on the almond side. I would like to change the control panel surround to black--haven't been able to find one. Please keep me in mind if you happen to have one laying around that's in presentable condition :D

Pic link below (#10-17 are of this machine) in case anyone's interested.

Cool DW

WE saw quite a few of these around the DC area, it was fairly expensive at the time, that control panel is cast metal.

The 1/2 HP Gold-Seal motor in yours is an Emerson motor mated with a Hobart style pump, this was the last motor on a KA branded DW to have a SS motor shaft. Having a SS motor shaft makes the pump much more rebuildable as it always comes apart and goes back together easily.

I am probably going to sell this one...

I've been hunting for a black control panel forever with zero luck (or have found black, but with wrong amount of control buttons). If it wasn't for the control panel colour, this would have gone into my black kitchen instead of my KUDS23.

Luckily, I have a new set of almond panels to replace the old scarred ones this came with....so at least it would look how it should have when made.

This machine runs EXCELLENTLY....and is moderately quieter than the 23. It's a good one...just got to decide if I let it go or not!

Black panel insert

Hi, KA made a replaceable insert for this in black (& other colors). It was a way allow for future decorating changes. The installation unfortunately destroyed the current panel inserted. But then it was fairly easy to install the new piece. These may still be available from whirlpool.

Alan and Steven:

Alan--I've not taken the door/control panel assembly off of one of these before....do you know what it is about the design which requires original control panel to be destroyed upon removal attempt?? I would have thought it was affixed from behind with screws...but apparently I'm wrong?

Steven: I used to have a Monterey 21 many years ago...NICE machines! As regards doing the swap you want to do, there are a zillion threads which touch on that up here. I read several of them a few weeks ago, but retained no info! Do a search on KUDS23, as I think that is where I located a few discussions. I'm just not clear on which tub a change was made for motor fit. I *think* the bottom of tub in the Monterey 21 will take the motor from your KUDA22...but DON'T quote me on that--check those threads as there are many experts on this stuff who chimed in for accuracy on that topic. They know much more than I --some are clearly repairmen or appliance gurus who know these things inside and out.

Thanks!
Allen

Swapping Parts On KA DWs

Hi Steven, The motor and pump assembly are interchangeable on all the 21s and 22s.

Hi Allen, there should be no problem disassembling the control panel on any KA DW, what kind of problem did you have on which model ?, you can message me if you like.

John

No destruction required...!

Took the control panel assembly off the door last nite. Opened it up and EASILY removed the almond coloured outer trim cover piece. It's stamped aluminum, held in place over the panel body via flexible tabs. A piece of cake to remove and refit a black one...if I ever find one!
