1960 lady Kenmore washer dryer combination

This was the top rated washer, dryer combination in consumer reports, it was the fastest best performing combination. It was also the lowest priced combination in the test at only about $380, both the gas and electric version would boost the wash temperature water as well.

We have the exact same one in electric at the museum in great working condition. Looks a little bit better than this one, lol.

I found a nice LK Combo in the basement of a big downtown church in DC. It was amazing the wealth of churches back then. They stopped using it because it developed a leak. Jeff and I and maybe our friend Phil went down and got it. I gave the church a contribution for it. All of the gay kids remembered it because it was in the kitchen and they would throw dinner linens in it from MCC functions. John looked at it and said that it looked like the seal from a dishwasher pump would fit it and sure enough , it stopped leaking on the floor. It has two light bulbs mounted in the top of the cabinet that shine down into the tub. I think that machine could be connected on a 50 amp circuit to speed drying. The gas model burned through the outer tank as the intense burner heat destroyed the porcelain which was sad. Consumer testing magazines said that heating the water in the machine was impractical, but the two WP-made combos got highest ratings for washing results and the consumer mags never correlated the excellent washing performance with the hotter water these machines provided.

That is definitely an ideal type of concept, and leave it to Sears, in the era of being leaders in the washer and dryer field...

Too bad that laundry room-in-a-single machine, didn't stay longer, and few today have attempted & could get that mile run for reliability and longevity...
