That's what I call those 1974-90 something kenmores with the black control panel with the center timer dial and 2 water level/temp dials.

I thought you meant what you meant. and your right those control panels are black. But I think their period was from '76 through '86.
But I also realized that, I'm a "black faced Kenmore" person. lol. Although some of the white/beige plastic consoles made around the same time are also of interest. As well as triple dispenser models that were before '76 and portable kenmores.

A new word to add to my dictionary. Next time I call Sears for a part, instead of giving the model # I will just mention that it is for a black faced Kenmore and surely they will have microfilm labeled just for that.

What would be real funny is to drop a "lost sock" out the bottom of the machine on the road every so often. Knowing that the specators would run out to get a dropped object, The sock could contain candy, along with business cards or some other type of advertisment for the featured appliance shop!

This would definitely be something fun to bring to the next wash-in if someone here were to get it!!!
