Last Weeks Vac Finds

I'm a bit late, but had a successful holiday weekend junking with my wife. We hit yard sales, flea markets and church sales. It was a fun weekend and we got alot of "stuff".

Not all was vacuums. I did get a nice Pioneer reciever at a church sale and some nice older record albums.

My vacuum finds are all over the spectrum. While I like Hoovers, there are many others that catch my eye. That Lux Discovery is a real nice machine. For some reason, those early style Eurekas are catching my eye. To think of all the ones I passed up in the early days. They seem to be decent machines. Also, I'm starting to pick up Hoover Elites that are in nice shape. They are pushing 20 years now. The one pictured is real clean and a nice runner. It was hit and miss with Elites as far as motors were concerned. Some were loud and others ran smooth. I keep the good runners.

Well, we're going "junking" this weekend too. I'll try and post the finds sooner this time.

Some very nice finds, Joe. I had a Discovery III similar to that one, sent it off to serve Steve - gyrafoam in GA. It was a very good cleaner but a little awkward to use on stairs.

What Pioneer receiver did you find?

the blue eureka and the orange convertible are begging for closeups. i feel that same way about the elites. ubercheaply made, but still not bad. and people LOVE buying those horrible little Oreck canisters on eBay.

Nice finds. I like the old Eurekas as much as I like the Hoover convertibles. Is that a Panasonic on the far right?

Hose Around It's Neck

The vacuum with the hose around it's neck shows the latest in the spring lineup of vacuum cleaner fashion. All the better cleaners will be sporting them this season in a jaunty off the housing look.
It is an Electrolux Upright. It has the motor in the handle and the power nozzle as the floor piece.
There is a rubber plug, covering an opening on the top of the bag compartment, which the hose inserts into.
They are quiet, powerful and versatile, with one of the most easily changed bags in any upright.
They do not have a height adjustment and are prone to tipping if the hose is stretched too far.
Thet were pricey from Elux but available from Costco in the 90's for 199.00.
The weight of the motor and the dust bag on the handle make it harder on your arm to operate for extended periods.

Now For Some Closeups

You wanted to see closeups, here they are. The orange Hoover is a u4047 and the Eureka is a ESP model.

Pete, that Panasonic looking machine is a Riccar. It was only a couple bucks and I bought it to play with. I don't know much about Riccars. This one is almost a copy of the Panasonic Jetflow.

The Electrolux is a Discovery II. I've always wanted one to play around with and the price was right on this one too. The cord hooks are snapped off though.

Finally, the Poineer reciever is a SX-424 model. Looks to be more of a bottom line model, but still has 70 watts of power. No slouch for sound.

My wife and I went out junking yeaterday and it was cold and rainy here. I did net an Electrolux Model E and a Hoover Celebrity QS. Cold and rainy again here today with temps in the 50's. Not a good day for open air flea markets. We're staying home.

is it just me, or does it seem Eureka was CONSTANTLY shuffling their colors and hoods around to make new models? i have never seen a Eureka like that. i wonder if it has the *heavy duty* motor and BALL BEARINGS in the agitator? thanks *buffalo*.

Thank you Kelly for explaining. I'm not very familiar with uprights, they are rare here on the European continent. It didn't even come to my mind that it is possible to have the motor in the handle. But it's obvious the floor piece is too small.

Blue Eureka

I had this exact same vacuum, during my first marriage. (to the Greek)

I used it up side his head one day. It still worked afterwards.

I really like that orange convertible. Very pretty. Looks like it will look amazing when it's all cleaned up!

The Eureka is really neat too. We've been getting a lot of old Eurekas in the shop lately. They're often filthy. I really think that people are pulling their old Hoovers and Eurekas out of their basements and garages after they've gone through their fourth Bissell this year.

I have a Lux Discovery also. They're great. They're very well-built.

Those old Riccars are some of the best clean-air vacuums ever made.
