I can't believe how great those detergent dispenser vending machines look. Most of those were trashed to hell decades ago.

Huebsch and Speed Queen

In the local laundromat which I sometimes visit to wash my car cover, I've noticed that all the washing machines are front load Huebsch units, in different load capacities.

I live in Honolulu, Hawaii.

I've always assumed that the Alliance brand of Huebsch models were aimed towards the Canadian market, with the Speed Queen moniker primarily destined for the USA market.

Can anyone elaborate?

Huebsch Manufacturing Company started out early in prior century making industrial/commercial dryers and ironers.

From there you need a score card to keep track of events.

Basically you had the original Huebsch Laundry company founded by brothers John and Joseph Huebsch in 1907.

Then there is (or was) the Huebsch Manufacturing Company founded in 1907.

Huebsch laundry company still exists: https://huebsch-services.com/our-story/

At some point Huebsch Manufacturing Company became a division of American Laundry Machinery Company.

American Laundry Machinery Company in turn was gobbled up by McGraw Edison in 1960.

Fast forward to 1979 McGraw Edison sold their laundry division (which included Speed Queen) to Raytheon Company.

By 1990's Raytheon Commercial Laundry was purchased by Alliance Laundry Systems (owed by Bain's Capital).

You won't find much or anything specifically pointing to exactly when Alliance Laundry Systems got their mitts on Huebsch. Likely because Huebsch Manufacturing came to them via long ago American Laundry Systems deal.

Bock commercial laundry extractor

1 million thanks to you laundress for posting this auction, we were the successful bitters on the Bock extractor, we bid $750 and picked it up for just 35. I’m very happy, we are driving out to Ohio to pick it up tomorrow.

I’m very excited to have this for the museum. I have a similar sized one that I got about 10 years ago, which actually works, but it’s terrible condition and needs a lot of restoration work. If this one that we’re picking up tomorrow is in good shape. I will sell the one we have or just recycle it. If anyone’s interested get in touch with me. It is a three phase machine however so very few people will be able to use it and it has to be bolted down.

I will post more pictures when it gets back to the warehouse as I said we’re excited about this one as it spins it nearly 1800 RPMs.

Again, a big thank you laundress keep up the good posts

This has been another good summer for gathering machines.

Long was interested in Bock or other such extractors. Then noticed good number of things one saw weren't rated capacity wise for more than what domestic units such as "Spin-X". That is about ten to fifteen pounds (dry laundry).

What you get from a Bock or similar industrial extractor of course is a much larger basket. Things one couldn't dream of doing in a domestic extractor such as large cotton blankets or even a duvet are easily handled by such machines.

From our own "AgitatorJamie"

So many Bock extractors were pulled out of service in laundromats due to concerns over liability and or perhaps costs. Once Braun introduced washer/extractors and rest of market followed stand alone extractors began to vanish from commercial/industrial laundries as well.

Am here to tell you if ever come across an American Motex extractor in good nick and at reasonable price, am having it. *LOL*

Know of two such active machines. One resides with a member, other is at Martha Stewart's "Skylands" estate in Maine.

Just got back from picking up the Bock Extractor

It was a long nine hour round-trip drive the people at the laundromat that held the auction and the other men that came to buy stuff. We’re all extremely helpful. My friends Chris and Tate came and helped move the machine. Also, my friend Larry wrote along with me and also helped

We got unbolded fairly quickly, lifted the inner basket out which is over 100 pounds in itself to make it easier to move the rest of the machine. The machine looks to be in really good shape. It will be installed in the museum at some point hopefully before too long it’ll be fun to play with.

Closed laundromat

I really just talked to the auctioneer, the laundromat was in a l-shaped strip mall, the strip mall in general look pretty depressed about half the stores looked pretty bad. There were other stores that were closed. I’m guessing the town itself has probably lost some sort of industry or maybe several over the last decades and is a little bit depressed. it was a pretty nice laundromat when it went in in the early 90s.

The auctioneer told me that some of those top load Speed Queen built washers sold for five and $600 each, he was really surprised. All the guys that were there buying equipment and dismantling. It were extremely helpful. It was a very good experience , the auctioneer an extra $50 tip just for being so efficient with everything.

When we start working on the extractor, I’ll try to do a post about it. It’s pretty nice machine. Looks to be in pretty darn good shape. Didn’t see any obvious problems.
