Does anyone know what the makes and models of the fridge and stove in Laverne and Shirleys basement apartment? What was the name of that god awful color? Also what kind of fridge was in the California apt, does anyone have a picture? Did they ever show the stove?

Both Fridges were Frigidaire's

The one in the Milwaukee apt was a circa 1950 the one in the LA apt was a 1960. I believe it has been said that the stove int he Milwaukee apt was a Kenmore from circa 1955…am I right guys?….PAT

I have a LOT of L&S on my DVR, I just need to look thru them. Give me a little time. My first take on the fridge is a Kelvinator, looks an awful lot like my Aunt Mary's from circa 1941. I never noticed the stove except that it was gas and I never saw them cooking on it!

"One two three four, schlemiel, schlemozzle, Hossenpfeffer Inc."

Video research

I had time over the weekend so looked in on some L&S that I had DVR'd from various seasons. I didn't notice any particular "color" in the basement appliances, other than that they appeared to be deliberately worn-looking. I still think the fridge looks like a Kelvinator, though I couldn't find any identifying marks. The stove looks more elaborate than I remembered. Again, nothing jumped out at me. I've always wondered about the table radio under the window. Zenith?

I had nothing DVR'd from the CA set, so I'm no help there.

I remember an episode of Laverne and Shirley that was really appliance-centered.   Laverne and Shirley went on a TV game show (was is called 'Silly For Dollars??) and had to choose between two grand prizes:  a new range (which I think may have been electric) or a collection of smalls (again I think they referred to it as an 'appliance potpourri').  They finally chose to take a run at the new range after the one in their apartment blew up.

I must get some boxed sets of the old episodes....

I watched an episode last night, The fridge I think is def a fridgediar. The color still baffles me. Kinda almond-y with a greenish tint.
Anyone got pictures?

I'm guessing it was repainted so it wouldn't stand out like a bright white blob. Notice the white milk, of course that may have not been milk in that bottle at all. I don't know anything about filming TV shows, but I do remember all of Lucy's appliances had to be sprayed with a non-reflective coating. Same thing with bright metal like the chrome around the non-existent windshield on the 55' Pontiac. They even had to tint newspapers gray.

ps...and speaking as a California-born Catholic, it's shlemiel, shlimazel...but when it comes to spelling, I'm a shmendrik.

I know the original cook top stove on the Brady bunch was replaced from stainless steel to yellow (or vice versa) coz the reflection was distracting in the camera shots. That's ok tho, When these things happen we get to se more appliances, right?

I always figured the L and S applinaces had been spray painted coz they probably got them used and cheap tho there was never a story line that said so.It IS one ugly color. I amazed at how dirty the door was considering it looks like the charectors kept the place fairly tidy........makes me think some producer was making a comment about dirty white trash in some way. Personally I know people that are poor but that dosent automaticly equal dirty.

the Brady stove

Having just binged on the entire series of The Brady Bunch on DVD, I can attest that the yellow gas cooktop was only in the 5th (final) season. The oven got changed out that same season as well. I don't know why except to speculate that the stainless Thermador set up, while upmarket, might have not read "70s Fabulous" by the 74-75 season. Particularly in the case of the oven, which was replaced with a full-glass door style as opposed to the older style window on the Thermador. (Does anyone know what brand that newer oven was?)

I don't know if there was ever a clear enough shot of the gas cooktop to be able to tell the brand, but I've learned never to underestimate some of the members on here, either!

The avocado GE Americana side by side was still current enough looking to pass (if modernizing was the actual reason). Who knows, there could have been some sort of incident that happened during the summer hiatus and that necessitated repairing/rebuilding a portion of the set. We know that's what happened on Bewitched--a fire destroyed many of the sets, and that's how Samantha got her new kitchen.

Seems to me that the Bewitched appliances were changed out due to brand sponsorship.....same with the cars on that particular show.....Ofcorse I don't know that fro sure but I bet our wonderful runner of this site does...Robert, you got an opinion? or Fact?...Im totally willing to be wrong for correct information.

Lucy's appliances had to be sprayed with a non-reflectiv

I believe the bright metal pieces In ILL were steel-wooled to dull the reflections. I forget where I had heard that, but it sure looks like it.

Me thinks it would take an awful lot of steel-woolin' and elbow grease to take the reflective finish off those chrome bumpers. Maybe they used a combination of spray and steel wool. Like I said, I don't know nothin bout filming no TV shows.

I don't think that steel wool would dull the finish of the chrome bumper very much, if at all. I reason I think this is because in the late 1950's my family had chrome patio furniture. And every Spring my father had my brother and I go over all the chrome with steel wool and 3 in 1 Oil to restore the finish. This method removed the rusted spots and left a very shiny finish on the chrome, it was also way tedious. I have noticed in old movies that all the painted and chrome surfaces on cars close up shots look somewhat dull. I think that this could have been achived by applying paste wax and not buffing it off completely. This is just a guess on my part.
