Let’s Try This Again: Amana Find!

Being the OCD-type of person I am, thought I could delete my previous post entirely with the “Amanda” typo. Anyway, here we go again. Just picked up this set in Sacramento and seem to be reminiscent of JCPenney/Speed Queen. Never owned Amana before so am having fun with the washer so far. Clean set and appear to be true deluxe workhorses. They may be worthy of replacing my 1985 Whirlpool Surpreme set in the house but not sure yet...

I'll go on record as intentionally referring to the brand as "Amanda" just because.

 

I think Phil posted that pair here recently.  Interesting to see another make that offered Slow/Fast like on an 806.  Have fun with them and let us know how you like them!

That looks like a nice set. I remember them doing a good job. Washer was very noisy,however. Seems like water could be re-directed to spray into tub if you felt so inclined.

good "old skool"washers

same agitator and speckled porcelain basket as my '82 SQ marathon(my '84 marathon has a SS basket)After running recent modern machines,using the '82 SQ is refreshing-no BS and no fooling around-it just gets on with the program and gets the job donefairly noisy(in a good way)and not the best rollover,but very good wash results.Extraction performance is only ok.

Sweet!!! Congratulations on the find. Hopefully they will last you a long time of excellent service. Question: How long is the rinse cycle? The SQ I used in a laundrymat of that era had an extremely short cycle. Was wondering if the residential units were longer.
Again, what a great find.

Those should be fun machines to work with. They are great collection pieces as well.

I would not replace the WP set with these. The WP are much more durable machines and will need less repair. Also due to the Double Duty Surgilator and neutral drain the WP will clean much better.

Give this cool set a nice place in the collection and use them in good health. Great to see your collection coming together.

Maiden Wash

Thank you for the responses! Did a load in the Amana (aka “Amanda”) and nowhere near as noisy as my Wards Signature machines. Decent turnover, interesting “self-cleaning” lint filter, four-minute rinse, immediate spin with no neutral drain. Love the flexibility of wash/spin speeds. Almond in color so am guessing early/mid 80s? Will post model number if anyone here is able to carbon-date it.

LOL Todd!  It's a tall order to drown out a Snorge!

 

Per Greg's post in the other thread, your machines date to around 1982.  That seems about right, as the GE machines from that period had similar console treatments.

Wonder if the washer could be just named "Amanda", (& the dryer?) reminds me of my aunt's machines, though I don't think hr washer had an outside speed control...
