It really does look in very good shape for a 1970 model.
I always liked those Kenmore machines, the pushbuttons and timer. I was thrilled when visiting some family friends years ago for a supper gathering, their Kenmore was turned on, and the timer was *lighted*!

Someone in Minneapolis doesn't have one though...actually a couple of people in the Mpls/StPaul area don't have one, and it's right there under their noses!

Greg, I do have to agree with you about *someone* in Minneapolis needing a Roto-Rack!
Robert, maybe it's time for you to "expand your color horizons" and get a Coppertone machine...after all, it did come out in the 1950's so it would be a suitable color for your collection! And don't worry, you'll get used to the loading arrangement after a while...;-)

I guess it's really none of my business, but I just do not understand people who have dishwashers and don't use them. I, for one, don't want to stand over some sink and deal with all the drudgery after stuffing my face. And contrary to what "those people" seem to think, you cannot possibly get dishes as clean, nor sanitary, washing by hand. The argument, "Well, it's just me so I don't use that many dishes," is lame. You don't have to run it every day. You run it when it gets full. And if you pre-rinse (I don't) and use the right detergent, the short cycle generally works fine.
I know this seemed to go off topic, but the seller's description said it was no longer used because the owners preferred to do their dishes by hand.
Nevertheless, this is a wonderful addition for the vintage lover/collector.

I have those neighbors. Their house was built by the same builder, same time as mine and the cheap BOL GE has only been used once in about 13 years. Their daughter who at the time was about 14 used it that once while the folks were away and caught supreme s hite for it from her father and mother. Both of them swear that washing dishes by hand is better..uggg.
My sister in law had a Kitchen Aid portable for a lot of years.It saw very little use,because of low water pressure in their house,and the fact that when the kids left the house,there weren't a lot of dishes to wash anymore.MaytagAl now has that dishwasher.

My sister is that type of person that hardly uses her dishwasher. She is on her second KitchenAid Superba. The first one actually stopped working years ago and I believe it is because it did not get any use. She contends that washing dishes by hand is 'cheaper'. I believe it has been proven that you spend more money heating the water and washing the dishes by hand than if you use a dishwasher. And back in the 80's and 90's when the energy crunch was present, the 'thing to do' was to use the energy saver button to turn the heat off on the dry cycle. I think that the savings was $12 per year($1.00) per month. That was not a big savings for having 'wet' dishes. I guess the only way around that was to be there when the dishwasher went in to the dry cycle. You could simply open the door and let the steam out so that the dishes would 'air dry'. I never went that route. I always let the dishwasher complete its dry cycle.

It is true that using the dishwasher is cheaper than washing by hand. Using a front load washer that heats it's own water from cold to hot vs a machine that draws hot off the water heater is also more economical, and for the grand finale...if you have a car with a roof (not a convertible) you get better gas mileage if you close the windows and use the air conditioning, than if you roll them down, because the wind resistance that gets created reduced fuel economy. Always gives me a chuckle when I hear someone very definitely arguing the other way.
