Detergent Concentrates

Seems as though detergent manufacturers are well into the 2X or 3X direction, even before Wal-Mart's mandate. Thanks for sharing this article.--Laundry Shark

Oh my

I have never been much of a liquid detergent guy. I find with liquid that I use more than I need, and with my machine,it is just better to use powder. i can say however, that I have never bought detergent from Walmart for myself. I still love the Sa-8 and the Persil, both are powder.

If you read the article

it says that for liquid detergents, only the concentrated variety would be sold. Powders are not mentioned.

Wal-Mart, as well as most other stores, has already reduced the amount of powdered detergents available anyway. Of course one has to wonder what will happen with all of the new real-estate which will be available when only smaller bottles of concentrated detergent are available. Will powders have an opportunity to seize more shelf-space?

This will trickle down to most stores in the U.S. so this could be a great opportunity for a new product to be introduced to the market (*cough, cough - PERSIL). LOL

Not to nitpick, but:

The article clearly states that Walmart will only sell "concentrated liquid detergents", it mentions nothing about powders.

Article goes on to state what many have known for ages, nonconcentrated liquid detergents are mostly water. So removing all that water saves bulk, weight, packaging and many other costs, in turn is good for the environment. What would be interesting is if product prices declined or remained the same given the above savings, and that the technology to concentrate liquids is not really that new.
