Ran across this on Offer Up. Posted pics in case the auction ends. $175 is enticing for something I will probably never see again. Needs a new plug but that's no biggie at all. Alas, I have no real use for it, nowhere reasonable to put it (I already have a garage fridge) and a wife that would have my head on a platter for buying "old useless junk", so I'll have to pass (oh, and shipping to PNW for this would be a killer. This thing probably weighs as much as my Whirlpool French door, despite its size).
I imagine it would be too small to be practical or useful but it is still an interesting find, especially if you are into commercial equipment like I am. It's even got a freezer compartment, much like the domestic, el-cheapo compact fridges of today.
I wonder how many of these are out there in the wild? I'm an HVACR tech, when I'm out on commercial refrig calls I usually don't see anything older than 30 years old, just like anything else (heat pumps, furnaces, AC), so seeing something from before my time is kind of exciting.
This is definitely a pre-1970s model. I'm guessing fifties to early sixties, probably intended for smaller eateries like diners. For anyone who doesn't know about the history McCall, they were headquartered in Hudson, NY from its founding in 1944 until I think the mid-70s, when Kolpak Industries of Parsons, TN bought them out. Kolpak was purchased in the early '90s by Shannon Group, and then acquired by Manitowoc in the late '90s.
Sadly, McCall no longer exists as of 2010. Manitowoc decided to keep the Delfield line instead.
