Hi Guys! My friend's Kenmore Dual Action agitator is shot - the wratchetting mechanism is not working so the bottom goes like hell and beats the clothes to death while the ones on top just sit there. Anyone have an agitator for this machine? - its the LARGE capacity not the extra large. I'd even replace it with the strait vane one or even a vintage one if it fits - let me know what ya got and what you want for it. Thanks!

Matt

Hi Matt,

There is a cam kit for that agitator. Part # is 285811. find me a model # of the washer to be sure. I can send you one or it can be bought at any appliance store. Don't replace with a straight vane Surgilator....rollover will be non-existent! Email me or answer here.

Yes, it is a very easy fix. You will need the following tools:

A long flat blade scredwrive
A socket with about a 6" extension
Agitator Overhaul kit (while in there, why not?) it's cheap.

This job can be completed in 20 minutes or less without even having to take the machine apart. It's all done from the top of the machine. All you do is pop the fabric dispenser out, then using the long screwdriver pop out the "floor" of the fabric dispenser opening in the agitator and then use the socket and extention to remove the retaining nut holding the agitator in the machine. Pull up in the agitator and out she comes. Follow the instructions in your repair kit and make sure you grease only the parts indicated in the instructions that come with the kit.
I did mine about a year ago and it still works like new.

Hi Matt,
I stand corrected,,,part # is 285748 cam kit. Some of the Kenmore agitators take a different kit. I think it's a 7/16 or 1/2 nut that holds the agitator to the shaft. There is a notch in the side of the top cap of the agitator; pry that off. You will need a socket extension to reach down to remove the bolt. The agitator should pull up easily. Separate the upper auger from the base. There are directions in the cam kit. See above post. Though I don't think this model has a fabric softener dispenser. Let me know if i can be any more help..............we'll make a W/P Kenmore repairman out of you yet! LOL

Congrats on the GE Jet Swirl.........

The way the instructions that were included in the agitator overhaul kit said to remove the top part of the agitator was to remove the agitator as a whole unit. Then put it on the floor and step on it with both feet and firmly grasp the top and pull striaght up. Mine was a little tight, but she gave up easily. The agitator dogs will be right under the top part, you can't miss them!
