The link below is to an item advertised on AW before I logged in.

Is this not rather like the mixer Sunbeam produced in maybe the early 1980s? I must say its does look rather nifty and those double whips look they would do a good job on whisking although I think I will restrain myself until they show up on ebay at reduced prices - I have about 60 other mixers to choose from :)

Whisking

Al, I think you hit the nail on the head with whisking. Seems very expensive for a machine whose attachments suggest its only really much cop for whisking cream meringue and yorkshire 'puddin batter.

This online comapny has it on sale in 2 colours at a much reduced price although had I of been in the market for a stand mixer myself I still think the price is a little OTT for something that I or anyone else could do very quickly with a cheap hand mixer or a much cheaper generic no name hand/stand mixer.

I have noticed these in a local hardware/home shop and the plastic finish certainly leaves something to be desired for its price.

That price is certainly a great deal more palatable than the MR price, free delivery too, I must say I am tempted - although I am not so keen on the colour, I rather liked the red. I daresay that it would be fine for mixing cakes etc. as well and at the lower price the quality/finish is maybe not so much an issue.

I was just surprised at seeing a old, somewhat unique design revived.

It must be the "Bake Off Effect" that there are so many stand mixers knocking about now, I can remember a time 20/25 years ago where the Kenwood Chef was about the only machine widely available (before Kitchenaids became "desirable") - there were a few other machines like Bosch, Philips and the 1990s Mixmaster revival knocking about but in nothing like the numbers there are now

Stand mixers

Yes I agree about the revival of them, they seem to be everywhere under so many names - the local hardware shop even has a Pifco stand mixer - thats a name I didnt expect to see back in a while.

Bake Off certainly has alot to contribute to the home baking revival and whilst it is good to see the enthusiasm I personally cannot get my head around using a stand mixer for anything more than kneading bread, and mixing the very heaviest of cake mixes.

Each time I have used the Bosch Styline mixer for a sponge or Madeira I seem to get the Devil sat on my shoulder disguised as Delia telling me that if I used my handmixer "I'd get a much better feel for what Im mixing" hahahaha.

It looks very much like the model sold here in the 80s and maybe into the 90s. A colleague who had a nice new condo on Capitol Hill invited me up to see the place and he had one of these mixers. He was rich and social and was gone from AIDS very soon. It had beaters and dough hooks, just like the pictured model does.

Dough hooks on several brands of mixers, even mixers that did not have adequate power to knead dough (I thought photographs of smoke rising from the motor during heavy mixing were funny) became all the rage in the mid 70s with the home canning and bread-baking rages brought on by the energy crisis and TV shows and books by famous chefs. I had a GE/Universal mixer (their higher end gift line) that was sold for the Christmas season the last year I worked at Rich's before graduating and even it had dough hooks and a lock down mixer body for dough kneading. The model with chromed plastic mixer body and black stand did not sell all that well and I bought one cheap at the January warehouse sale. I used it for a while before I bought the KitchenAid. It made decent pound cakes.

Yes there was the Sunbeam Euromixer back in the 80's early 90's and surprisingly it's pretty good for basic mixing and nice and quiet as well.. now I have to find the picture of mine.
