After being reminded of how COOL those things look when I found one on San Diego Craigslist today ($40...see shoppers square posting)....I just wondered if any of you have one, or ever used one and what your general thoughts were regarding usability and repairability?? They're pretty obscure now...not sure what sort of quantity of spare bits are even floating about these days...

That Looks Like....

....Someone at Frigidaire (the Loewy-style oven knobs) slept with someone at GE (the pushbuttons) and nine months afterwards -

They had a little Coolerator.

Oh, wait - it must have been a three-way, because it looks like Westinghouse brought a backguard shape to the party.

Hans....I know what you mean--

In my own 48 years I've only heard tales about them. My dad apparently had one in the 50s, so all I have is a vague memory from what I saw in an old snapshot. I WISH to G*D I had a large enough kitchen to do this. San Diego isn't all that far, but I will bet you it is gone by the weekend if not already. Some So. Cal appliance shop owner or collector will surely grab this for huge profit.

There is the gas issue, true...

but plenty more people like me who know just enough about Coolerator ranges to know that this is a once or twice in a lifetime shot at one. For the cost of a cheap dinner out....

This is gonna wind up being my version of the barn-find '57 Corvette fuelie for $100 story that's made the rounds for decades.

I found mine on Craigslist as well. I think I paid 85$? . You will not be disappointed only problem it's like 400 lbs. I used it for 2 Yrs the broiler on right side melted and one burner shorted out. Lol other than that works like a top still. It's in garage now new house waiting for some love new wiring and guts. But it has mosey style and class than pictured not many left I can't find much anywhere. My buttons are all white. I hope you pick it up. Take care good luck

The nice thing about older electric ranges is that there are parts that will fit them even if they were not made for them, unlike gas ranges where the piping, valves and burners pretty much are made to order. Elements can be replaced; open coil bake and broil elements can be restrung while the surface units are pretty standard in size so that something will fit. There are generic thermostats. I do not know about the 7 heat push-button switches, but most most of the range is wires and contacts and switches. Of course, if you are going to debate whether an ant has a pupick instead of going out and getting it, you stand a good chance of losing it. Best of luck getting it. There are two different control panels in the photos, however. The first is for a single oven range and in much better shape than the one for the double oven range being offered, but Bakelite knobs clean up beautifully.
