Have only ever seen the Agitub as part of a stacked unit, yet these two low end models that wash at 69 strokes per minute must be agitator tubs. Never knew. This ad is so comprehensive, one just gasps at all the variety and detail of GM's magnanimity in the heyday of the 1-18's.

Always wondered if they had lights and yes two of them do! Cool to see that the unusual giant temp control panel was really designed to hold all the wording for a fabric selector when we mainly see a big board for the simple Hot Warm Cold. There was another surprising revelation about the TOL, but I'll have to go back and reread. So satisfying, interesting and delightful--that big gold god in an arial shot from on high.

'Twas the options selector and the second rinse offering. Will get out the magnifier later to decode the goodies. But we already know what they're going to be because
we are washer folk indeed.
 
A few surprises

Extra Rinse (This one is blocked by the knob, but what else could it be? Big fan of extended soaks for stains. What a versatile machine. Would really love to have one. Who else here would love one too?

Wait a second: there already is a Wash & Extra Rinse selection; so the blocked selection must be something else that ends in rinse, Hmmmm, Soak & Rinse ???? Let me go back and try harder.
 
Still can't get it!

Thought it might be the third speed option available on this model, but enlarged to the max, the one visible word is rinse and not speed, which is controlled by the fabric/cycle selection. Neat that this TOL had the hand wash speed. The older and cleaner--ha ha--I get the more I like light agitation.
 
The 1-18 machines would hold a tremendous load of clothes. The only machine I have ever known that actually washed better with a larger load of clothes versus a smaller load. They held nearly twice what the models previously would hold. The "skinny mini" and the separate units made like them were nice little machines, but had pitfalls. As the clutch would wear, the spin would reduce and need to be replaced, which was a real pain. The dryer had bakelite all around the opening and the lint filter holder was bakelite too. It broke very easily and often in use when something would get caught or hit it just right. That was an expensive repair too. If the agitub was made today, it would have a new style motor and belt and not the complex and troublesome mechanism of the 70's. I suppose that is what speed queen has done with their new models. We will see I guess.

1-18s are my favorite machine as well; would love to have one of these TOL 3 speeds some day. I have a much lower end model from around the same time(early 70s) and it still does a great job with many fewer bells and whistles. This is also my favorite control panel design of the 70s...like the sleek lines and the airplane-like look of the controls.

My favorite Frigidaire washers. Had a bunch of them but the Custom Imperials were my favorite.Just wish their Rapidry speed was 1350 rpms not 780. And the agitator being the Deep Action.
 
Greg ~ I'd love to have one, too. It's those spray rinses that so bedazzle me, and every model features them.

Robert ~ Hello Uncle Bob. I think we have two push button, rapid advance 1-18's in the club, but haven't seen a member with this model; saw a youtube vid of a later model that had EIGHT fabric selections instead of 6. Impressive.
