I wouldn't call that a crack in the glass back panel as the seller puts it. That back glass is broken! The seller is probably a victim of someone's advice who told him "There are collectors out there that will pay you BIG BUCKS for your machine!".
 
There was a short time in 1957 when the 142 used the same two piece lid that the AMP machines used, sans the the water level mechanism.  It did keep, however, 2 mercury switches in the lid as the lid safety switch and tub light switch as the light was in the lid just like it was on the 140 & 141.
