I have to laugh...

I sent an e-mail to Maytag Customer Service today with the model and serial number for the A700 that I picked up yesterday (see other thread on pre-'66 Maytag questions) and they told me it was "The estimated date of purchase is 12/27/1979." That's a laugh! I was going to reply and ask again but I may be wasting my time. They are probably just the Whirlpool Cuatomer Service folks using that chart that I have seen on the Internet that only goes back to 1980 or so.

Can anyone take a stab at the birthday of my A700? I see a schematic sticker on the back dated 6-61 so I think it must be between '61 and '63.

Model A700 - Serial 229972CY

Thanks again for all of the help!

It lives! So far no major problems found.

Thanks Gary! I took a picture of the inside of the cabinet and the bottom that I will post later. So far, the only casualty from moving it was the loss of one screw and nylon washer from the cover by the water inlet valve. I will source a new one if it doesn't turn up.

I plugged it in and turned it on. It spins pretty quietly! The light behind the dial works (as seen in the Craigslist pictures) and the fluorescent backlight on the console works great also! The tub light doesn't work but the switch at the back of the lid seems to be stuck in. The real test will be with water and that won't be until the weekend at the earliest.

The last owner said it was shutting off by itself. I think they might not have been pulling the knob out all the way when they were turning it on, or maybe it was out of balance. The timer seems to need a slightly firmer tug than my 2000 KitchenAidPool did. The timer also seems to be much more solid. I still can't get over the build quality!
