About six months ago my trusty DC washer of twenty five years started acting up. The only problem I ever had was that about 3 years ago the timer failed to function. I replaced it with a new old stock Maytag part and all was good until 6 months ago. The machine developed intermittent symptoms and they seemed to be different each time, i.e not filling to appropriate level, not spinning to speed, not draining the tub promptly or just suddenly stopping.

Finally, I decided to disassemble the unit and see if it could be repaired. One thing led to another and I finally had it running again smoothly after replacing several hundred dollars worth of parts that I managed to hunt down and repairing some others.

After about 6 or 7 loads of clothes, new symptoms rapidly appeared consistent with a bad brake assembly, which in retrospect, were probably there at the get go. First some abrading sounds when spinning down, then indexing the basket during agitation and rapidly progressed to a loud chatter and then the spin basket simply locking up.

I now have a machine that for all intents and purposes is ready to run, sans a new brake assembly. I cannot find one and the one I have is the late version which is stamped together and not serviceable.

How do I find a brake assembly?

replacement brake assembly

John,
Is the offer for a brake assembly still available? I sent you an email but have not gotten a reply.
