Hi all,

I posted a while ago asking about minimal heat during operation of my Maytag DE406. I received great replies and have finally found time to crack the dryer open. Took a peak through the front and saw a section of the halo missing (attached photo). I'd imagine that's the culprit for this whole minimal heat issue. Can the experts chime in a to confirm? If so, can that one section be replaced? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the links qsd-dan. Since I have it disassembled should I replace the hi-limit thermostat anyways? Not sure if it's been replaced in the past or not. If so, what is the part number for it?

It isn't essential, but since you have it apart, it's much easier to access it. Part # is 301451. You could purchase an aftermarket one for cheaper (L225-40F) but the quality of the item has a strong potential of being significantly inferior.

Make sure you replace the front drum seal if it's damaged or gone. This will prevent items, like coins, from making their way to the heating element and shorting it out....which may have been the cause of your problem.

One item you may consider purchasing is a new door switch. If it bites the dust, it requires the same full tear down you're doing now.

Wonderful tips qsd-dan, thanks so much.

For the felt drum seal, like you said it pretty much disintegrated into a pile of dust. I can't seem to make heads or tales of how it's suppose to be installed. Can you let me know how it's suppose to be installed?
