Maytag DE412 Test Plan

I have a maytag DE412 dryer that works, but it is noisey. Has a rumble when operating. I have replaced the drum rollers, belt idler pulley, front drum glides and it still rumbles. Blower seems fine. I am beginning to suspect the motor as the source of the noise. Has anyone ever lubricated the bearings on one of these motors?

Another issue I have is that it is currently stored in the garage. No access to 220 for testing. Has anyone ever operated the dryer with 120? If so, can you provide me some guidance as to how the pigtail could be replaced with a standard 110 appliance cord?

I've had those Maytag's rumble because of a lint buildup on the blower wheel.

There are different kinds of rumbles so without hearing it's hard to tell. Usually though it's the blower or lint on the blower. There should be no play in the blower wheel if you turn it by hand.

To check the motor just grab the motor shaft and see if there is any movement up and down. Also turn the shaft by hand. If there is any binding or play then replace the motor.

To test the other dryer on 120 you simply connect the neutral side of a 120v cord to the center terminal on the terminal block and then connect the hot side to either the left or right terminal on the terminal block. Connect the ground to the cabinet. If the dryer does not run when you connect the hot wire to the left side of the block, move the wire to the right terminal.

No Lint

The machine was completely torn down and cleaned so there is no lint buildup on the blower wheel. There is no play in the blower wheel, but I'll need to check the motor again. I fear the motor is on its way out. The machine was in horrible shape when I got it.
