Hi Guys Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the original Maytag stacked washer/dryers with the digital controls. Did they have any major issues to be concerned about? Guess my major concern is the digital controls and where there any problems with them. Is there any other issues also. Found a decent one on Craigslist for $200.00 total electric model. Always liked the way they looked and just want to know what you all think about them. Thanks for any info guys. Have a great weekend everybody. Steve

I still have one.....

there was talk of a board issue, but never experienced it...

some say the dryers capacity is not equal to the washer, but it seems fine...

it is a one speed machine...delicate is a paused wash period....

I like the one push button operation.....simple and easy to use....

that did puzzle me, the washer has a light, but not the dryer.....

moving and installing is a breeze since it comes apart, once in place and trying to level both the stand and washer can be a bit tricky....

200.00 seems the standard for pricing of these.....although I got two of them for 50.00 each....

My sister bought one that would be the same vintage as my '84 Maytags. Local dealer installed it and found out the board was bad. He ran back to the dealer, got a new board, installed it and it ran fine ever since. They are Fabric-Matic, standard capacity and work just fine. Hers had a tub light like Martin's but none in the dryer.

Maytag TL Stacks

These were decent machines overall, but had all the problems as the separate MT W&Ds, as 90% of the parts were the same + the added problems of the electronic controls, sensitive lid switch-lid lock switch, electric washer level switch, heat and motor relays were all extra problems, then you add lots of problems installing and leveling the machine.

The capacity of both the washer and dryer are both on the small size but not nearly as small as the 24" wide TL stack machines.

If you need a stack washer-dryer the class act is the 27" wide Whirlpool Thin-Twins, they are superior in every way to these MT stacks.

The ONLY advantage to the MT stacks is they are a few inches less in depth and they can be moved in two pieces when they have to go into really tight old homes.

Reliable unit

Hi Everyone,
Not too often we talk about the Maytag Stacked Set.
I found an SG1000 4 years ago for $300. It sat for 2 years until I rearranged my laundry lab to fit it in. Mine was mfg in 1986. It's superb! To answer your question there is one known issue. The chrome plated lid handle breaks off. Mine has no handle. It broke off before I bought the machine. The Maytag Service manuals mention this issue. And supposedly they reinforced the mounting to correct this. (I tried buying the handle but it is NLA). You can see in the pic a chip in the porcelain where the washer lid handle was.
