The GE Dishwasher installed in the house I purchased a number of years ago has finally failed. The GLD4400N (Quiet Power Series) was purchased by the previous owner in March of 2008 and did a surprisingly good job at the task at hand, even after seventeen years of service. (I was just wondering how long it was going to last, and then it started leaking. So much for that.)

I am considering the purchase of the Maytag model listed above and am interested in reviews/thoughts/considerations. At $600 in the "big boxes", are there any other MOL machines to consider for the price/value?

Cheers.

I think that the 2 rack design on a mid-priced d/w is the better choice...unless you get an expensive one there isn't enough benefit from a truly custom-fit loading pattern and TBH it isn't worth fussing with the 3rd rack for cutlery.  The WP design with the round sprayer for juice glasses etc on the 3rd rack is interesting, but is an upper-end feature.

We have a 10 year old low-end Bosch (2 racks, plastic tub) in Detroit and a 2 year old upper-end Bosch here in Palm Springs and truth be told I prefer using the cheaper unit (the 3 rack seems like I'm forever sliding it back and forth and takes a long time to unload, for some weird reason).

Given this is (basically) the exact same to any WP DW, those aren't really alternatives.

For the prices you pay in the US, anything from the likes of Arcelik (Bloomberg, Beko, etc.) or Vestel (Sharp) aren't really recommendable.

Bosch has the big advantage that EVERY dishwasher uses the same filter-pump-heater combo regardless of price.
As long as they have a top sprayer, they should have a flow diverter (alternating spray arms) and thus basically the same programming and thus washing ability as anything more expensive from them.
You just pay for the full stainless tub and silence optimisation the higher you go.
At the very TOL the only real performance bump CrystalDry - but that's out of your stated price range for sure.
As long as your dishes fit the racking, those are an easy to service, reliable well performing option.

Somebody on here had a TOL LG at some point.
They were very happy in general with its performance and general reliability.
It however had an unfortunate slow-leak causing major damage from what I remember.
But those LGs can be had pretty cheaply as well.

The 2 things I always look in a DW is noise and efficiency.
The Maytag is actually pretty efficient (except for the Quick cycle that uses more than the intensive cycle for some reason).
And at 50dB it really isn't quiet - but there isn't really much in the aub 700$ range that significantly beats it.

If you can get it for a reasonable price, that should be a decent choice.

Dishmobile, if you’re interested in the Maytag I have access to the Whirlpool Inside Pass discount program. The 4949 is $440 on their site currently, and the 8959 with the big third rack for cups is $630.

It’s a “benefit” where I work (because why pay better?). My company is not affiliated with WP in any way as far as I’m aware. I have the ability to send “guest” invites.
