Last week our perfectly running Harvest Gold Maytag dryer stopped working properly. Now it will only run for 30-45 seconds, ring the bell once and shut off. but if you take the red wire off of the chimer Solenoid, it will run forever(or until you open the door). I don't think the problem is the moisture sensor because this also happens on "Air Fluff", which bypasses the moisture sensor. I found a new control Switch for about $30, but haven't purchased it yet because I don't know if that is the problem or not. Does anyone have any idea why the dryer is not operating properly?

Thanks,

Jay

oh doctor what is this messy discharge?

Is it DG808 or DE808 or as stated?

Someone please correct me here, for me it's a stretch.

This dryer sounds like it has electronic dry control. As such, moisture across the sensors allows a small electrical current to constantly discharge. As the clothng become dry the current is no longer discharged, therby building up in a capacitor until it is storng enough to trip a relay turning off the dryer. The amount of currnet the capactor holds dtermines the cycle and the amount of time until it trips from the "it's dry" signal /build-up of charge.

So my guess is, there is an open circuit, or loose wire prenventing the neessary discharge through the sensors. (Have you tried gently washing them with a nearly dry cloth and mild soap, especially if you use dryer softener sheets?)

Is the dryer properly grounded/earthed? Have you moved any connectors, changed the power flex cord, (or hard-wire cable)or added a rug under the machine?

Are the rotary contacs and "brushes" ( I think this is near the filter) making contact such that the sensors are electrically coonected (continuity) to the contorller?

If by control switch you mean the eletronic sensing controls, it is probably a good idea to have a spare one even if it does not solve the problem, as these are probably soon-to-be (if not already) NLA.

Good luck. I'm curious myself to hear what is actually wrong with it.
