Some of you collectors may have the blower bearing kit 301568 , And if so put them in a safe.To everyone else with squealing dryer blowers,SORRY.I have searched the United States and I have found 1. We need to come up with a generic kit.Enlighten me if you know-thanks

Well, I'll enlighten you about this which you probably already know, but you'd better treat that blower (Impeller) like an egg. One misstep and you will break it and that includes replacing the bearing in it. I've never done it but it sounds scary. I know replacing the bearing in the drum support spider requires a drift of a specific size.

Brian,
I have a brand new bakelite impeller and a new bearing kit.I want to get folks thinking about a way to retrofit this problem as I really feel the parts are basically used up.Without a solution,The HOH dryers will vanish.

Blowers For HOH Dryers

There are still lots of good [ used ] ones out there, the last few HOH dryers we have scraped this past year I didn't even bother saving the blowers.

If you clean and lucubrate the bearing properly these blowers will last a very long time, certainly longer than anyone would want to use one of these dryers today.

I do have some good used ones if anyone gets in a bind for one.

Thanks John,

What do you mean by, certainly longer than anyone would use these dryers today?

Oh I see,
My De806 is a daily driver and totally rebuilt.New electronic control, thermostats, belts, impeller bearing and more(thanks to all of the advice from everyone here).I don't want to just admire these machines ,I want to work them like they were made to.Why can't we run them 30 more years IF we know how to fix them and have the parts?

True.
I was testing the water to see how many old timers would step up and say --I have two--I have one -I have plenty etc.Fact is,I have a box of spare new parts for mine but I sorta feel for the next generation who love these machines too.

Maytag HOH Dryers

These are very cool dryers, I restored a brown pair of all push button machines a few years back that will get hooked up and reside at the museum for everyone to see and use.

Yes it is possible to keep most dryers running almost indifferently, but for my everyday dryer I want something that dries faster, has a bigger capacity, has a better cool-down and keeps my shirts from wrinkling for at least a few hours after the machine stops, and most of all I want a safer machine that I don't always have to be home when it is running.

I love and use vintage appliances in my home, and my 1975 Lady Kenmore gas dryer, Maytag ditched the HOH dryers because of all the reasons mentioned.
