I perused Youtube for videos on what surging is like, but I couldn't find any.

Does anyone have a link so that I can recognize surging?

Surging sound.....

it's when you wrap your lips around the straw from a drink at McDonalds, as you-are suck-ing to pull up your drink, when you reach the bottom, the slurping sound made is the surging.....

another term would be CAVITATION, as the pump is trying to pull in water, and it ran dry and lost prime...

This is a video of a Voyager platform dishwasher surging. You can tell after a few seconds of full force spray. This machine either has a clogged chopper inlet screen or may not be filling properly.
