A friend of mine has given me a Maytag LAT series washing machine, that a friend of her's gave to her. When I plugged the machine in it would not attempt to do anything. I opened the control panel and noticed the fuse on the lid switch assembly was blown. I had a spare so I swapped it out, plugged the machine in, the lights in the room flickered and that was it. The fuse blew again. Where do I begin to troubleshoot? I have another working machine that I can compare all of the wire hookups to make sure they are all where they should be. Any help is appreciated.

Well...

Usually, when the lid switch fuse blows, that indicates a problem with the lid switch assy itself. There are two switches which have to agree on if the lid is open or closed. Any disagreement will automatically blow the fuse. I also think that the fuse will kill the fill part of the cycle but still allow the washer to spin out the load. Sounds like the first thing I might be doing is to check/replace the lid switch assy which comes as a whole assy with fuse. It's black bodyed and p/n should be 22001682. Install and adjust for proper lid switch activation.
